❓ Did you know that Wavelength Dispersive Spectrometry (WDS) is highly sensitive for light element analysis? In this steel sample, Boron phases are mapped at only 5 kV accelerating voltage. Boron-rich phases were confirmed and even a small inclusion of only 150 nm in size was successfully mapped. Boron is present at a trace level in this sample and the signal is too low for Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (EDS) analysis. For this week’s #UnderTheMicroscopeMonday 🔬 we take a look at this stunning EDS & EM layered image, showing the composition of air pollution particles on pine leaves 🍃 Using the AZtec software, we were able to identify the particles for detailed analysis.
