The Search in this program by far I think it's the best.

The search engine is by far the easiest and best. The entire site you can easily get around and find what youre looking for. If it doesn't have the answers which usually it does, they can send you to where you will find them.

I am really enjoying the newspapers and…

I am really enjoying the newspapers and the 1921 census. However Ancestry seems to have a better search engine as it will find church records that Findmypast misses, even though I eventually find the record. I also wish it was easier to choose a specific census to search.

Useful and Well-Designed Service

I have been able to find a few family members going back to the 1500s, thanks to the huge collection of records. For the most part, the site is very well designed, and I especially appreciated the hints. One thing I would like is the ability to move more easily between the family trees and the search window. I've found that sometimes you need to see the tree to figure out who to assign a record to. For example, where a grandfather, father, son are all named "John" with the same last name, it can be difficult to identify the right "John" from the drop-down list unless you remember the specific birth dates or death dates. There is no convenient way of accessing the tree at the same time as viewing the search (i.e., that I know of).

Very Disappointed

They took all my information on my family and told me nothing. Every hint said I had to be a paying member to see. Family search is much better.

Didn't like that I couldn't put in more information when looking for a person, like spouse, parents, siblings.

When doing an advanced search you are provided with extra options depending on the record set.

For example if you click 'Search' Followed by 'All Record Sets' and pick a census e.g 1891 then you will be able to enter a lot more information such as other household members etc.

I wasn't for sure about this site

I wasn't for sure about this site, but before I knew it I was getting much needed info. When I search for someone, I have no issues finding them. I now have loads of relative and proof of being related m. Awesome site thank you.

Annoying website

While the info was good, if I accidentally clicked on 1921 census, I went to a page which a) threatened to charge $299 if I clicked by accident and b) disabled the back button so the only way to exit was to close the browser and log in again. After doing this a few times I cancelled my free trial.

Not my favorite website for genealogy

I rarely find any information that I have not found on another free or paid service. I find it the most difficult to use and when I do get results they are redundant.

Disappointed


I got nothing except what I entered. And i found the app to be difficult to work with. Very limited. So disappointed. I really had hoped to discover more about my ancestors

Have just started with FindMyPast

Have just started FindMyPast. Made mistake on entering some of my family on the tree but will correct ASAP. Layout was a bit more difficult then other Genealogy sites. Hope to make my FamilySearch, Ancestry, WikiTree and FindMyPast all the same so that other can look into which one serves them best.

I love how quickly this finds hints and…

I love how quickly this finds hints and connections, I just wish the free version would allow us to cross check more hints than it does. (I like this over ancestry, but ancestry does allow more hint cross checks) I am worried I will have to use ancestry to cross check add and build on to my heritage tree information

It was very easy to build my tree on…

It was very easy to build my tree on Findmypast. I found the research a little hard to figure out. If I had more time than just the weekend I would probably understand how your site works to research. As far as looking at hints of other family trees, I like to see where they get their sources as apposed to just adding someone's tree to my tree. I like to verify the information I'm adding.

When looking at a tree to tree hint there should be a section for sources at the bottom of the drawer however not everyone adds their source to the tree.

If there is no source then you do have the option to message the user directly to ask them where they have found their information.

Nicely laid out site

It was interesting going through the process of tracing my family tree that had not been researched. I didn't find a tutorial regarding how to trace backwards, which would be extremely helpful, and it's the only reason I didn't leave a 5 star review.

I cancelled the trial on the last day…

I cancelled the trial on the last day of trial but they charged my card anyway. When I tried to call the customer service number, it hangs up after it's auto message.


They did respond to my email and refunded my money. I would be very careful and read the fine print as if you accidentally look for something during the 14 days after trial cancellation (or cooling off period as they call it), they will not refund your money.

Catholic Diocese Records

Very excited about the Catholic Diocese records for Philadelphia & Baltimore. Disappointed that actual records were not viewable for Manhattan. I understand that may be the agreement with their diocese, but in that case I wish the names of sponsors/witnesses/godparents on the records were also transcribed. Quite often, other people listed on the record are of importance.

Over Time...I've Improved

Over time, I felt comfortable entering data. As the tree grew, hints were provided. At one point, the tree had family names related to me that was added quickly.

What I found amazing is that the hints were different from other platforms for ancestors five generations which others did not have.

I'm comfortable navigating and entering data while noticing that I'm more at ease since I first started.

Simple & straightforward people interface

Simple & straightforward people interface. I am able to easily move back & forth from the app on my phone and the full service webpage in my computer.

The ease of use in loading gedcom data got me up and running fast. In a very short time he orivided me with over 800 hints on my family at large.
