RESUMEN: La presente investigación sobre el cabildo catedralicio de Sigüenza tiene como objetivo clarificar las relaciones de poder, sociedad y cultura, centrándose en el estudio de un grupo social particular: el clero catedralicio. La ciudad de Sigüenza fue un señorío episcopal durante la Edad Media, desde que dejó de someterse al dominio musulmán. El principal objetivo de esta investigación es profundizar en la dimensión social y cultural del cabildo catedralicio de Sigüenza con el fin de caracterizar a su clero como una elite social en la Castilla de la Baja Edad Media. Durante el reino hispanovisigodo de los siglos VI y VII, las elites eclesiasticas apoyadas por los circulos politicos dominantes apostaron por el desarrollo de unas instituciones educativas de caracter religioso a traves de una serie de medidas recogidas en los canones conciliares y en las reglas monasticas. El objetivo de este articulo es analizar estas instituciones, fundamentalmente el curriculum impartido en cada una de ellas y su finalidad, partiendo de dichas medidas, ya que ponen en tela de juicio algunos topicos educativos que encontramos en la bibliografia existente. This article attempts to make progress in the knowledge of the level of assimilation of Hispanic culture in Medieval Europe. From this perspective it has been studied the inventory of Siguenza Cathedral Library –elaborated in 1339– for the purpose of reconstructing its library and approaching us to the cultural interests of the canons of Siguenza from the 12th to the 14th centuries. The content of said library collection, due to some particular features that distinguishes it from other Hispanic libraries, offers a unique testimony of the Castilian culture of the 12th and 13th centuries. The humanistic ideals that would prevail in the late Middle Ages can be glimpsed in the Siguenza Cathedral library.

Resumen El presente artículo tiene como objeto contribuir al conocimiento de la religiosi-dad bajomedieval castellana y dilucidar las actitudes ante la muerte del hombre medieval. Con el propósito de esclarecer la mentalidad de los miembros privile-giados de la sociedad seguntina bajomedieval, tanto de laicos como de eclesiás-ticos, hemos analizado un grupo de testamentos conservados en el Archivo de la Catedral de Sigüenza de los siglos XIII, XIV y XV. Gracias a estos documentos oficiales podemos acercarnos a las concepciones sobre la vida y la muerte que imperaban en dicho contexto. En los testamentos quedan codificados los ritos y actitudes que el hombre utilizaba para transitar de la vida terrenal al más allá y alcanzar la tan ansiada Salvación Eterna.
