Moreover, the way in which each of these close readings is conducted adds an additional value: they each deal with a section of the text, presenting all the data necessary for its understanding. All together, they cover the whole work. Each of them is also an attempt at a global interpretation of the treatise, examined through the particular framing of the textual passage around which the “Lectures plurielles” are conceived.
Around this “polyphonic” analysis of the text, we have built a structure that aims to offer the reader a complete reference work on all the issues of the De ira. Sources, manuscript tradition, images, political and philosophical concepts, posterity – in short, all the aspects that a traditional commentary of the text would not have allowed us to distinguish so clearly – find their place here.
This book is therefore aimed at specialists as well as students or anyone interested in the thought of emotions in antiquity.

generally less successful than Carmen VIII, due to its unstable and fragmented structure. As regards the content of the poem, the paper sheds new light on the acquisition of the theses advocated by J.J. Rousseau regarding the “noble savage”, and their integration into the classical topos of the Golden Age Myth.
El Escorial and shows its most significant readings. Eventually, a new stemmatic reconstruction is proposed, by which S is placed in the y branch, as a gemellus of V (§ 3): the contributions to the constitutio textus of this new witness are particularly important for the final part of the Lucullus, where V is missing (§ 4).

generally, one of the very rare systematic discussions of Carl Joachim Classen (1928-2013) in memoriam
Roman political thought, with Cicero’s De re publica, De legibus, and De officiis. Yet, this work was unfairly underestimated in the 20th century, in spite of its fascinating historical, philosophical and linguistic implications, in addition to the political-ideological ones.

invites you to a seminar given by
Professor Ermanno Malaspina (IAS Durham - Turin).
Friday 12 June 2015, 5 pm, Seminar Room.
The Summer School is aimed at an international audience, therefore the courses will be held in English.
The School will be inaugurated by a group of philologists who will be discussing the state of the art of philological studies and the still open questions in the field of classical and medieval philology, and digital philology: Raffaella Tabacco, Francesco Stella and Roberto Rosselli del Turco.
Three half-day sessions will follow, in which three invited scholars will present their programs and tools:
- Wilhelm Ott, author of TUSTEP - Tübingen System of Text Processing tools;
- Guido Milanese, who will illustrate the use of LaTeX and its scripts for critical editions;
- Stefan Hagel, author of CTE- Classical Text Editor.
The invited scholars will be present during the whole course to foster a constructive debate between students and researchers on textual and philological issues related to digital tools and their use.
we are located in Vercelli – Università del Piemonte Orientale, with a branch in Torino – Università di Torino.
everything started from the fact that for classical latin there is an old but useful resource as the PHI cdrom #5.3, while for late-latin texts nothing similar exists. so we decided to fill the gap and here we are. our library – which speaks italian and english – is online at http://www.digiliblt.unipmn.it: come see it!

“The reception of Seneca and Stoicism from the Middle Ages to the 18th century”
Italia Fenice (a cultural association registered as a non-profit for social entity, with offices at Via delle Viole 8, Sutri, VT, Italy), in partnership with the Société Internationale des Amis de Cicéron in Paris (SIAC - Association loi 1901 déclarée au Journal Officiel du 8 avril 2008 - Reconnaissance d’intérêt général du 16 juin 2008 – Siège: 9, avenue Sainte Foy, Neuilly-sur-Seine, F-92200),
invites
post-doctoral scholars aged 35 and under to submit
applications for a grant to be awarded for research on
“The reception of Seneca and Stoicism from the Middle Ages to the 18th century.”
Eligible projects include editions and translations of texts composed during those centuries, as well as studies of the influence of Seneca and Roman Stoicism (including authors writing in Greek under the Roman Empire, such as Musonius and Epictetus) on the rediscovery of classical Latinity, oratory, law, political and moral philosophy etc.
The selection committee is chiefly interested in projects that employ a philological or exegetical approach. We expect that the grant will contribute to the publication of a printed text (a scholarly monograph, critical edition or translation with commentary of a Latin text from the 6thto the 18th centuries), with financial support coming from the two sponsoring institutions.
On the 18th, there are three further slots available on the day, and the organisers are inviting proposals for papers exploring Cicero’s afterlife in the antique and late antique eras. The CfP is open to anyone with a doctorate, who is aged 40 or under; the papers will be original contributions to the subject, to be delivered in Italian.
Deadline for the abstracts is set for the 30th September 2016.
Proposals should consist of an abstract, no longer than a side of A4, and CV, both of which should be attached to an email and sent to all three members of the selection committee, Giancarlo Mazzoli ([email protected]), Ermanno Malaspina ([email protected]) and Sergio Audano ([email protected]) by the closing date
Deadline: 30th September 2016
Sestri Levante, 10 marzo 2017
Chiavari, 11 marzo 2017
The conference is to be held in Rome on Oct. 14th, 2021. Attendance is free.
This thematically wide-ranging and interdisciplinary series was named after Marcus Tullius Cicero, who was not only a politician but also an influential orator and philosopher.
The peer-reviewed series is published and sponsored by the Patrum Lumen Sustine foundation in Basel under the scholarly direction of the Société Internationale des Amis de Cicéron (SIAC, Paris, www.tulliana.eu).

THE RECEPTION OF CICERO AND ROMAN PLATONISM
FROM THE MIDDLE AGES TO THE 18TH CENTURY
Eligible projects include editions and translations of texts composed during those centuries, as well as studies of the influence and/or criticism of Cicero and of Roman Platonism (including Greek-speaking imperial authors) on the rediscovery of classical Latinity, oratory, law, political and moral philosophy etc.
The selection committee is chiefly interested in projects that adopt a philological or exegetical approach. We expect that the grant will lead to a publication, subject to peer review (a scholarly monograph, critical edition or translation with commentary of a Latin text from the 6th to the 18th centuries). This will appear in the “Cicero” series, published by De Gruyter (Berlin), with financial support from the two sponsoring institutions: the first volume is already available: https://www.degruyter.com/view/product/510373?format=G.
