[ABC/9:30pm] God On My Side is a film about faith and the places it can take people. Where it took Andrew Denton was to the 63rd National Religious Broadcasters’ Convention in Dallas, Texas, in February 2006. More than 6,000 Christian communicators gathered there, at the Gaylord Convention Center, to discuss how best to spread the word of God in this new century, how to take advantage of opportunities presented by the explosion of new technologies and audiences. By turns serious and comic and sometimes a little disturbing, it examines the cutting edge of evangelical technology, the business of God, the America of the religious right, and what the inescapable truths of the Bible mean for US foreign policy and the Middle East. Seventy million Americans are born again Christians. A highly organised, politicised and motivated bloc, they provide more than 40 per cent of President Bush's vote. The NRB provides key access to this constituency. With 350 television and 750 radio stations among its members, and an estimated audience of 141 million Americans, the NRB knows it has a powerful voice in the States. Its members not only speak to the heartland of President Bush's America, they are the heartland of President Bush's America. Denton wondered, what would this heartland look like up close? Who are these people? What were the journeys that brought them to faith? With his trademark wit and empathy, Denton's idea was to avoid the clichés, to stay away from the stereotypical, pulpit-pounding televangelists, and focus instead on the foot soldiers of Christianity, the everyday believers running booths on the exhibition floor or workshops in the surrounding rooms. With an open mind and a determination to take people as he found them, his self-appointed brief was to allow his interviewees the respect and room to express themselves freely, to have their ideas and views heard. Andrew Denton's first feature-length documentary, God On My Side is a subtle but powerful piece of filmmaking that will resonate with audiences in these increasingly religious times.

But the best story is set for Bree who is being murdered (yes another) by Joan Crawford. Dumbo Orson has been given a dud life since childhood after the death of his father (she blamed him) and now he is about to get payback. While his ex-wife has fallen from the attic, Orson’s struggle with his mother causes her to cark it, and he manages to plant both bodies beside one another to look like a suicide / murder pact. Unsteady Eddie as Seven sinks Nine

Another week, another Seven win. Ho hum.

This week will go down as the week Eddie McGuire was seen to a) take a change of role (according to Nine's Press Release) b) step down c) bone himself or d) leave a sinking ship.

It was a week in which Seven again dominated the ratings with a convincing 30.2% share to Nine's 25.6%. TEN had 20.9%, the ABC 16.9% and SBS 6.6%.

After the 1% difference between Seven and Nine in the last ratings survey, largely due to the Logie Awards, Channel Eddie was unable to follow through on its upward surge (can we now no longer call it Channel Eddie? Boooo!).

In a somewhat uninspiring week, It Takes Two becomes its top rater for the week. Meanwhile Seven News is building with each passing week, overflowing to Today Tonight. Other strong shows for Seven include Where Are They Now, Police Files Unlocked, All Saints, My Name is Earl and Desperate Housewives.

Nine's 60 Minutes was the top show of the week, followed by RPA: Where Are They Now, 1 vs 100, National Nine News and CSI. A programming blunder of Two and a Half Men cost Nine dearly on Tuesday night, coming third behind TEN for the night. It has since been pulled.

TEN is slipping back with each passing week as its reliance on the Big Brother franchise declines. There is more interest in new episodes of NCIS and House than in reality. It's a worry when Teen Fit Camp is heading our way. BB this week will send in Intruders but can they turn its fortunes around?

The ABC continues to slap the commercials on Wednesday with its Chaser / Spicks and Specks double. It also did well with ABC News and Robin Hood. The now-controversial Bastard Boys did ok and kept almost all of its audience for the second airing, meaning those who saw it liked it.

SBS had its best week in a long time thanks to Mythbusters, Top Gear, South Park and Eurovision.

Ratings Week 20.

King's court split on biopic

Friends of the late Graham Kennedy are divided over the telemovie The King which premieres tonight on TV1.

Close friend Noeline Brown has slammed the film for its warts-and-all depiction of Kennedy.

"I thought it was very bleak and it was a portrait of somebody not very like the Graham Kennedy I knew for many years," Brown told the Sydney Morning Herald.

Her husband Tony Sattler who knew Kennedy for 40 years has similarly criticised the film. "The bitter and twisted figure portrayed by Stephen Curry is not the Graham Kennedy that I knew," he told the SMH.

He commented on a scene in which Kennedy is seen to instruct a young male to hide in the boot of his car as inaccurate. Several moments in the film allude to Kennedy's hidden gay lifestyle.

"That ludicrous thing about making the bloke climb into the boot of the car - that never happened. Graham did tell me he made a guy sit in the back seat with a rug over him but he never made him get into the boot."

But former Kennedy producer Bob Phillips has praised the telemovie, saying "The public should know it's certainly not a documentary. There are inaccuracies. They have certainly bent it a little bit but basically it's a pretty true story."

Along with Brown and Sattler, Bert Newton declined to be involved in the making of the film. He is played in the film by actor Stephen Hall.

While it's understandable some players chose not to participate in the film, speaking out now only elevates the publicity perfectly for TV1 anyway.

The King premieres tonight on TV1 with a second screening on May 25. It airs on Nine later this year.

A full review of the film can be seen here.
