Miss USA falls flat

Like a metaphor for George Bush, Miss USA fell flat on her ass at The 2007 Miss Universe Pageant in Mexico City.

Had she learned a thing or two from Jennifer Hawkins? Jen was prone to tripping up and losing her skirt during her reign.

Sneak Peek of Monarchy

Nine's website has some 'First Look' previews of some upcoming shows:

Monarchy is a behind the scenes look at the Royal Family, from the makers of The Queen's Castle. Looks very interesting and would be a good Sunday 6:30pm show.

Try Before You Die is a magazine style travel / adventure series hosted by Jules Lund, Livinia Nixon and Gary Sweet. An obvious replacement for What's Good For You when it rests?

Kidnapped is an American drama series about a rich hostage. Starring Timothy Hutton and Dana Delaney it didn't fire in the US.

And of course Sea Patrol.

Sexy Rexy prompts apology

SBS has been forced to apologise for airing an episode of Inspector Rex in which a man was murdered during a sexual encounter. It aired in a 7:30pm timeslot.

The Australian Commuinications and Media Authority found the content was "not sufficiently mild" and inappropriate for a PG classification.

ACMA upheld a complaint by a viewer on December 31 2006 and advised "SBS apologised for any distress the misclassification may have caused in its response to the complaint dated 14 December 2006.''

The German based drama currently airs Thursdays on SBS.

More from Ralph

More girls, more laughs, more info for Aussie blokes - promises Ralph TV.

It failed to mention more advertorial television.
Don't forget that the magazine is also a ACP publication, under the PBL banner.

The show is produced by Southern Star Endemol, who have dabbled in late night TV via Big Brother and The Up Late Game Show with Hotdogs.

Here's a little more info on the new girly show that starts on Nine next week for those of you that are interested. Blokesworld, you have a lot to answer for.

Press Release:

RALPH TV, a unique13-part series based on RALPH, the best-selling Australian men’s magazine, will premiere on Thursday, June 7 at 11.00pm on Channel Nine, following the AFL and NRL versions of The Footy Show.

RALPH TV will be hosted by radio personality Craig (“Lowie”) Low, who will be joined by the magazine’s most popular girls, including Brooke Sheehan, Candice Manning and Angela Tsun. Like the magazine, the TV show will contain a winning mix of hot girls, outrageous stunts, laughs, adventure and lifestyle content for Aussie blokes. The new series is produced by Endemol SouthernStar, makers of Nine’s premier quiz show, 1 vs 100.

Nine Network Director of Programming, Michael Healy, said today: “We’re confident that the show will attract current readers of the magazine as well as a new audience that appreciates fun, humour and sport.

“RALPH TV will also benefit from a loyal and similar audience that tunes into The Footy Show every Thursday night.”

Michael Pickering, editor of RALPH, said the magazine now in its 10th year was taking a bold step into the future with a new look, a high-profile TV show and a dynamic online presence.

“Audiences will have the unique opportunity to interact with RALPH content on a range of levels. This means more girls, more laughs and more essential male information for Aussie blokes thanever before,” he said.

“I’ve never seen anything on Australian television like RALPH TV. We are very excited to be extending the magazine’s special blend of fun, humour and irreverence to the TV screen.” RALPH TV will launch alongside a new-look RALPH magazine (July issue, on sale June 4) which has been revamped with a different masthead, cleaner design and new sections.

A new-look RALPH web site will feature video segments from the magazine and TV show, exclusive content and a host of new features including blogs, games, slideshows and essential information such as bar and surf guides.

Catch-Up vs Dr. Phil

The Catch-Up is moving from 1pm to 12pm from Monday.

In one of its most significant adjustments from the Nine Network, the show will go head to head with TEN's Dr Phil, the show which used to precede it on the same network.

McLeod's Daughters reruns will shift from 12pm to 1pm.

The change is one of many that have occurred for Nine's lunchtime viewers who have seen scheduling alterations including The Nanny reruns for 2 weeks and
Fresh extended from 30 to 60 minutes then back to 30 again. More changes than The Young and the Restless had in a lifetime?

Of course relinquishing the live 1pm timeslot could create an interesting opportunity for Seven as they consider greenlighting Naomi Robson's new afternoon project...

[SBS/8:30pm] The Anti-Americas takes a whimsical, yet serious look at the estrangement between Europe and America. The film begins in Dublin at a session of Leviathan, a spirited series of pub debates, where we sense the post-Iraq resentment toward America. An opening sequence follows, featuring vox pop and a variety of pungent talking heads. The Anti-Americas then heads off to France, to visit the studios of Les Guignols de l’Info, or News Puppets - hilariously satirical giant marionettes who travesty the evening news. America is represented by a series of Sylvester Stallone puppets, “les Slys”, who symbolize the reach of American power militarily, economically, and even in the religious world. They attend a session of one of the nineteen Ministry of Culture committees charged with replacing English words for French ones and hear commentary from historian Tony Judt and philosopher Pascal Bruckner. A trip to the small southern city of Montauban, famed for its fresh local produce, reveals a deeply insecure society worried about the incursions of McDonalds, and the loss of leisure time and French joie de vivre, in favour of work-too-hard entrepreneurial capitalism. They pay a visit to the Lycée Henri IV, an exclusive Parisian school that grooms the future elites of France. Here, the children offer drawings and essays about America’s behaviour in the world, and the news is not encouraging for transatlantic friendship. Soldiers kill Iraqis, Americans are fat and illiterate, and we’re “massacring the planet”, as one sweet-faced girl says. After a horrible Nazi occupation and fifty years of Communism, the Poles are very conscious that they could be vulnerable to nasty neighbours, and they see the US as a strong protector. However, America’s visa policy keeps the number of Poles admitted to the US to a manageable number. The Poles take this as a slap in the face from an old friend – doubly insulting, since Poland sent troops to Iraq on the US’ behalf. It all comes together metaphorically speaking in the English Jerry Springer the Opera, summing up the ambivalence the British feel for America with a KKK chorus line and fat men dressed as babies. It’s a mixture of sneering, but also genuine affection for the vitality of what the US offers to the rest of the world.
[SBS/10:05pm] Vernon, Florida - The eccentric residents of the Southern swamp town of Vernon, Florida discuss turkey-hunting, gator-grunting, and the meaning of life. There is a taste of Samuel Beckett in the film's droll tone of forlorn hopefulness and something of Buster Keaton in the spacious frames and exquisitely deadpan comic timing. The film is a philosophical slapstick, a film as odd and mysterious as its subjects. Directed by Errol Morris (From the US, in English) (Documentary) (1985) G
