BB Special on / off / on / off

TEN today pulled a planned Big Brother special originally scheduled for Wednesday June 20 and replaced it with a 1 hr edition of the Daily Show.

It follows an earlier special "The Works" being planned then dumped.

For the next three Wednesdays BB will feature a one hour Daily Show followed by a Simpsons repeat (just for something completely different).

Programming amendments are nothing new in the biz, but they are turning into an art-form with some networks lately!

Meanwhile, teaser ads for Thank God You're Here have begun appearing on TEN.

By the time it eventually arrives, never a truer word will have been said....

Actor Matthew Newton was today given a 12 month good behaviour bond after pleading guilty in a NSW local court today.

The judge denied a plea by Newton's lawyers to not record a conviction.

Earlier charges against the actor had been dropped.

Newton is due to resume his role in the second series of TV1's Stupid, Stupid Man.

BB US tries Up Late format

The forthcoming American season of Big Brother will add an Up Late-style format to be known as After Dark.

It will air on the ShoToo network, part of the CBS / Showtime brand.

Footage will screen from 12am - 3am live and unedited. An online producer will select the camera views, which are likely to include profanity and nudity. However with time differences, the footage will actually be 9pm - 12am activity in the LA based house.

"That's primetime for the 'Big Brother' house," exec producer Allison Grodner told Variety. "It's when our houseguests are most wide awake and having fun, talking about strategy and playing the game. People are going to see quite a bit."

When CBS launches BB on July 5 it will air three nights a week.

BB Up Late has hosted by Mike Goldman in Australia since 2003.
