Cancelled: Veronica Mars

There are stories surfacing that Veronica Mars has been cancelled in the US.

Apparently representatives for actress Tina Majorino (Cindy 'Mac' Mackenzie ) told Moviehole that The CW network has cancelled the series.

This was also news to creator Rob Thomas, who said "If we're cancelled, I certainly don't know about it."

In Australia TEN has stuck with the series despite airing it in a late, low-key Friday night slot.

The handful of eps I have seen have always been just a cut above run-of-the-mill teen fodder. Mars has been sassy and spirited.

Word is Season 3 will end in May in the US.

Stan's Beastly spirit

Stan Zemanek is to continue as Australia's longest-serving host of Beauty and the Beast despite undergoing treatment for a malignant brain tumour diagnosed last year.

Foxtel has commissioned 20 new episodes of the trusty old panel show, which first aired in 1964.

He will be joined by two more female panellists per episode.

Press Release follows:

FOXTEL is underway with production of 20 new episodes of the iconic television show BEAUTY & THE BEAST, to air exclusively on the W. Channel.

The new shows extend the W. Channel’s current season of BEAUTY & THE BEAST in the 1.00pm Sunday timeslot.

BEAUTY & THE BEAST is hosted by Stan Zemanek. Zemanek is currently undergoing treatment for a malignant brain tumour diagnosed last year. He retired from radio in December but continues his reign as Australia’s longest serving “beast”.

In this latest series Stan will have not four but six “beauties” to brawl with per episode. Prue MacSween, Jeanne Little, Carlotta and Jan Murray continue as the resident beauties, while the guest panellists will include Kathy Lette, Ita Buttrose, Lauren Newton, Tania Zaetta and Charlotte Dawson.

From sex, to politics, to religion and relationships, BEAUTY & THE BEAST delivers more of the classic verbal stoushes and differing points of view for which the hugely popular show is famous. The show first aired on Australian television in 1964 and has become an institution.

Upcoming Guest Stars

Roseanne Barr will guest star on My Name is Earl next Thursday 8:00pm on Seven. She plays a trailer park manager who has a life-change. She's pretty funny in it if you are a fan.

Other upcoming guests to look out for in other shows are:

Fran Drescher, Bernadette Peters & Jon Bon Jovi.

More info:

Fran Drescher on Law & Order: CI 9:30pm Thursday March 22 on TEN.

Bernadette Peters on Law & Order: SVU 8:30pm Thursday March 29 on TEN.

Neither Fran nor Bernadette do much in either episode. Watching Fran Drescher try drama was a tad amusing though!

Jon Bon Jovi guests on The West Wing 9:30pm Saturday March 31 on ABC.

London reporting. Take 2. Take 3.

James Talia as Nine's London Correspondent is one of their better reporters.

But someone at NineMSN needs to be more on the ball.

In this webcast of a news item on accused French terrorist Willie Brigitte, they didn't cue the item properly.

The Master Control tape rewinds several times over and James starts the report again.

You can even hear the cameraman shout "rolling." James then delivers a long, unedited item that needs a good tweak.

NB: Item is preceded by an advertisement. Not sure how long this video will remain online once NineMSN realise their error!

Lost losing it

Lost is in trouble.

For the second week running it has come third in its timeslot.

Last night Missing Persons Unit was the top show of the night with 1.24m viewers. In the same timeslot, Law & Order: SVU had 1.20m and Lost trailed with 1.14m.

Such figures are a shadow of its first season glory consistently around the 2m figure.

And the news is about to get worse. On March 29 Seven isn't even screening the show.

Instead it will have a double episode of Bones. Last night the drama had 909,000 against the return of The Footy Show 1.03m and Law & Order: CI's 912,000.

In the US the show was bumped to a later 10pm timeslot, reflecting growing disillusionment from the audience.

Lost still has a loyal following in Melbourne where it was the night's # 1 show with 416, 000. But Sydney only won 292,000.

Last night's ratings.

[ABC/7:30pm] Constructing Australia is the first three-part doco-drama series to be produced under the Film Australia Making History Initiative. The first episode is the definitive story of how a giant steel arch resembling a coat hanger, became one of world's most recognised structures, and an engineering triumph. Completed during the dark days of the Great Depression and finished in March 1932, it is the legacy of a fateful partnership between two very different men - a brilliant engineer, JJC Bradfield, and a maverick politician, Jack Lang - who shared a relentless ambition to create "the people's bridge". Along the way, they managed to stir up more than one hornets' nest, both at home and in Britain. Massive, majestic and breathtaking, the Bridge was the greatest engineering challenge of its day anywhere on earth. Nothing like it had ever been attempted in Australia. It not only altered the life of a city forever, it became a symbol of a bold young nation and a changing world. And it was certainly visionary. At a time when there were only 30,000 cars and trucks in the entire city, the Bridge could carry 6000 vehicles and 160 trains every hour and all of Sydney's people could have easily crossed it in a single afternoon. With its graceful arch rising high above the famous harbour, it remained the tallest structure in the city until the late 1960s. The tale of its construction combines immense practical problems and intense human drama, personal conflicts and political intrigues. Today, it is impossible to imagine Sydney, and Australia, without it, but as the film reveals, the bridge we know and love was at risk of not being built. Narrated by Wendy Hughes

Tuppence meets Miss Marple (Geraldine McEwan) and together they follow a path of clues that lead them to the Norfolk village of Farrell St Edmund, where they find a community guarding an array of secrets. Miss Marple and Tuppence soon discover that a child was murdered in the village twenty years ago and it seems that Aunt Ada's death and the child's murder may be linked. If Miss Marple and Tuppence can find out who has kidnapped Mrs Lancaster they may find the truth about both Aunt Ada's death and who killed the child. But this is a village full of dark secrets and when the villagers realise Miss Marple and Tuppence are investigating a murder they quickly become defensive - someone even plants a black crow in their room in order to scare them away. This does not put off Miss Marple and Tuppence and soon they realise they are unearthing the villagers' biggest secret of all.
