Angry fans chase Lilley

On Friday a charming Chris Lilley was deemed a local hero for meeting fans and signing autographs at a DVD sale of Summer Heights High.

But by Saturday there were more than 1000 to meet him at Chadstone Shopping Centre. After 2 hours Lilley was forced to retreat.

According to news.com.au fan Donna McGindle said the crowd began booing him, then started to chase him.

Lilley reportedly took refuge at Centre Management while security guards threatened to call police.

An ABC publicist explained it was impossible for everyone to get an autograph.

Life's hard at the top!

I was there..it was handled so badly..Lilley should have stayed longer to meet his fans,,it was a dreadful blunder..fans tried to grab life size cut out figures of his characters.I couldn't believe he diddn't try to diffuse the anger

I too was there...

I waited four hours (!) to see him only to be told that he would be leaving. It was just poorly handled. He took too long to sign things and no one in charge spoke to the crowd the whole time!

Look at all the bad publicity this has caused him ... the success of his new series should have been celebrated. He and the show are brilliant ... Australia actually does have some international comedy talent other than Kath and Kim!!!!
