Lost's ending is found

ABC in the US has announced that Lost will end in 2010 with three more seasons of 16 episodes.

The unusual claim has been made to allow writers time to map out the key moves, and they couldn't be happier.

Following a mid-season break this year, word is that these seasons will air unbroken from February to May.

Creator Damon Lindelof told the Hollywood Reporter having the end point in sight was "incredibly liberating. Like we've been running a marathon and we actually know where the finish line is for the first time."

Lindelof and Cuse said they've had "a road map for the series with all the major mythological milestones and the ending in place" for a while.

"What we didn't know was how long we had to play the story out," Cuse said. "By defining the endpoint we can now really map out the rest of the series in confidence."

There will be some puzzle play, too.

"We sort of view Lost as a mosaic," Cuse said. "Now there are only 48 more tiles that go into that mosaic, and we're figuring out, along with all the other writers, exactly where they all go."

Returning: Survivor

Nine is bringing Survivor back to our screens, but in a very low profile timeslot.

The hit reality series is back 10.30pm Sunday May 20.

This 14th season is set in Fiji.

Nine last scheduled survivor at 9:30pm but when it didn't fire, it was bumped to 10.30pm. Now gaining the old Apprentice timeslot suggests only fleeting interest by Nine.

This series premiered in the US in February and is now whittling down about half a dozen contestants. The cast is again racially mixed, though without any emphasis on this. No openly gay contestants. Exile Island is once again back with, you guessed it, a new twist.

But if you don't want to know who's already gone, avoid internet spoilers!

Meanwhile Survivor 15 will be set on mainland China.

Dancing to another win

With 2.2m tuning in the finale of Dancing With The Stars Channel Seven has won Week 18 of ratings.

Seven had a 29.2% share to Nine's 27.2%, TEN's 22.1%, ABC's 15.6% and SBS' 5.9%.

Seven won Monday, Tuesday and Friday night, with the other four going to the Nine Network.

Seven's strongest other shows were Australia's Got Talent, News, TT, Grey's Anatomy, Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives.

For Nine its Sunday line-up of 60 Minutes, CSI, News and CSI Miami were strong. McLeod's Daughters, ACA and 1 vs 100 followed.

TEN had a disappointing week, with uneven interest in Big Brother. The Sunday edition was its biggest, followed by Monday's Live Nominations. House only got 1.1m as a repeat episode. The Simpsons got the same.

The ABC rules 8:30pm Wed with Spicks and Specks and The Chaser. Its News and Robin Hood also did well.

It's Kate!

Kate Ritchie has won her first Gold Logie.

In a win that was roundly applauded by the industry in the room, Ritchie won for her twenty years in Home and Away.

"I am forever having people stop me in the street and tell me that they know me and have watched me grow up," she said. "Over the last few years I've realised its much more rewarding to do exactly what you feel is right and winning this tonight feels like I am on the right path and I'm going to continue that."

Ritchie even acknowledged the difficulty of wearing "my first bra on the telly. Puberty wasn't very kind too, lets face it. Finally I would like to thank my mum and dad who probably wonder why they sent me to that audition twenty years ago. I want to thank them for doing exaclty that because it has set me on my way and given me the most incredible journey."

Ritchie won against a field of eight including sentimental favourite Rove McManus. He didn't go home epmty-handed, winning Silver Logie for Most Popular Presenter and Most Popular Light Entertainment for Rove Live.

Home & Away also won for Silver Logie for Most Popular Drama plus Amy Matthews for Best New Female Talent. Aaron Jeffrey from McLeod's Daughters won the Silver for Most Popular Male and a nod to Dustin Clare for Best New Male Talent from the same show.

Other awards went to Dancing with the Stars, NRL Footy Show,
Thank God You're Here, Lateline, The Terri Irwin Interview.

SBS also had Logie glory for 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany Italy v Australia and Susie Porter won Most Outstanding Actress for RAN: Remote Area Nurse. SBS also had wins for Emma Lung (Stranded)

The surprise of the night was the loss by The Chaser team (who behaved all night it seems). But voting had closed before the current season hit the new Wednesday timeslot.

Hosts Adam Hills and Dave Hughes had great success with their opening monologues. Fifi Box was shuffled into chat spots with the cast from Fantastic Four and Michael Wetherly. They weren't much chop. At times she was so loud-and-emphasized I thought I was watching a kids' show. Neither were the Green Room spots with Hamish and Andy. In fact given they are little more than a sponsor segment, and they drag out a long night even more, they should be axed.

Logie blunder moments would have to go to Aaron Jeffrey acknowledging McLeod's "best boobs in the business." And when Ioan Gruffudd told of growing up watching Neighbours and wanting to marry 'Charlene,' American actor Michael Chiklis asked if Charlene was "in the room?" And those filmed segments of Kerri-Anne Brand Power and the What's Good For You alcohol test were pretty bland too.

Best moment: I thought the In memoriam sequence was nicely done, but the best moment was just the shot of the security TV Week brought in for The Chaser boys -Wilfred the dog, boozin' at a table. Hilarious!

What was the Logies missing? A roaring, off-script acceptance speech or a show-stopping tell all presenter like Andrew Denton or Dame Edna.

In all, the young kids' year played it very, very safe.

Red Carpet goss.
