Spoiler: Andy & Lou on Neighbours

So, wanna know what happens when Little Britain's Andy & Lou step into Neighbours?

I've taken a sneak peek at the episode and it's a very, very, brief scene. You may be likely to think "is that it?"

But it's also good fun.

Andy & Lou have no dialogue in their scene at the 'Scarlett Bar' nor even gain a credit.

If you want to know what happens in the episode, read on....

In the Scarlett Bar the character of Pepper is sitting at a bar table having a conversation with another character.

As usual, several extras mill around to fill out the scene.

Then, rather obviously Andy (Matt Lucas) is wheeled in by Lou (David Walliams). They are dressed in their usual character costume.

They stop at the rear of the scene while Pepper and co continue having their discussion. Andy and Lou have some indistinguishable words (mimed) and Lou heads off to talk to Harold Bishop.

With this, Andy leaps out of his wheelchair and jumps onto a nearby motorbike video game!

He burns down the road of the game, throwing his motorbike from side to side, and all the while Pepper keeps on chatting, oblivious to the comic upstaging!

The camera cuts to Lou and Harold, deep in (mimed) conversation over a magazine article.

Then Lou jumps off his motorbike and back into his wheelchair before Andy returns. It's just like the routine in all their sketches.

They have a few final mimed words (Lou appears to point at something with "I want that one") but none of it is discernable.

And with that the scene is over.

The scene lasts about 90 seconds.

Effectively, Andy and Lou behave like most Neighbours extras, just with a little bit of upstaging!

It also looks like one of the first eps for British actor, and new Erinsborough resident, hunky Benjamin Hart.

Neighbours 'Little Britain' ep screens 6:30pm Thu June 14.

One guy. Two game shows.

No you weren't seeing double, that was Victorian Jamie Arceri, the same contestant on both 1 vs 100 and The Rich List on Monday night.

As one show ended and another began you could have flicked over from one channel to another to see him on rival networks.

Make up your own mind about whether this guy is greedy or just an astute, ultimate game show contestant.
But it sure was bad timing for the networks.

Arceri lost over $66,000 to the mob in Nine's show.

Today's 25th anniversary tour

Nine's Today show is about to turn 25 and is planning a whirlwind tour of the country presenting programmes from Perth to Brisbane.

The team will criss-cross the country to host programmes from 5 cities in 5 days.

The first Today featured Steve Liebmann and Sue Kellaway on June 28 1982. After leaving the show in four years' time, George Negus took over. Liebmann later returned to co-host with Liz Hayes and Tracy Grimshaw until Karl Stefanovic took over in 2005. And as for the ladies joining him, well let's just say Lisa Wilkinson is now sitting beside him.

Today's 25th anniversary tour will visit:

  • Monday June 25 - Perth, outside Burswood Casino
  • Tuesday June 26 - Adelaide, outside the State Library
  • Wednesday June 27 - Brisbane, Southbank
  • Thursday June 28 - Sydney, at the Opera House
  • Friday June 29 - Federation Square in Melbourne

  • Press Release:

On Thursday June 28, TODAY turns 25. It was on this day in 1982, that Steve Liebmann and Sue Kellaway first spoke the words "Good morning, Welcome to Today". Since then, TODAY has broadcast more than 6,000 shows.

To celebrate, TODAY is going Around Australia: Five cities in five days. The entire show will broadcast from Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in the last week of June.

"This is a huge logistical undertaking as no-one has ever attempted this in Australian breakfast television history," TODAY’s executive producer Tom Malone said. "We are taking the show to the people of Australia".

TODAY will start in Perth on Monday June 25 outside Burswood Casino, with an additional two hours especially for the Western Australian audience. The team will then move to Adelaide and Brisbane.

On June 28, TODAY will arrive in Sydney and will broadcast from the Opera House steps, with special appearances from former hosts.

Making her on-air debut today, co-host Lisa Wilkinson said: "Sydney is where it all began, so you can't get a better landmark than the Opera House to celebrate our birthday."

And TODAY will wrap up the week from Federation Square in Melbourne on Friday June 29. TODAY co-host Karl Stefanovic said the people of Melbourne have led TODAY's recent ratings resurgence in that city.

"We want to thank Melbourne for its strong support, giving us ratings victories for the past four weeks," he said.

TODAY has made significant gains on Sunrise in the past year. Across the five capital cities, TODAY is up 11.6 per cent, while Sunrise is down 10.8 per cent.

Mr Malone said he wanted to thank major sponsor Sanitarium and entertainment sponsor SONY BMG, who have helped make the week-long event possible.

“Sanitarium will be putting on a special Weetbix breakfast for everyone at our broadcasts, and SONY BMG will be unveiling some huge musical acts who will play live on the show,’’ he said.

    The King dethroned by NRL

Remember all that huffing and puffing about the audience figures for The King last week?

TV1 trumpeted its figures as the "second-highest non-sports audience" ever on Foxtel. So why has it wound up at the #11 show in last week's Pay TV ratings with only 66,00?

    Simple really...

First thing we need to remember is that subscription TV thrives on repeat screenings. The second point is to factor in TV1's "timeshift" channel in which its entire programming is re-broadcast 2 hours after it first airs.

The 511,000 was the total peak audience of two screening audiences. Whilst peak audiences are valuable, it is actually averages that are the norm.

The average audience for the first 8:30 screening of The King, as I told you last week, was actually 176,900 -in Pay terms it's still a fantastic figure.

The telemovie also had another screening (make that two with the timeshift channel) on Friday night. So it's overall average weekly rating drops down with each subsequent screening. It's one of the reasons Pay TV is so coy over audience figures, they are often misunderstood (plus they also show up crap audiences for some channels, but that's another story).

So The King effectively had 4 screenings last week, giving a total average audience of 66,000. A long way behind the NRL which benefits from live, event-screening.

Make no mistake, the audience figure is still terrific for the telemovie. It just isn't the 511,000 they tried to make out....

    Matthew Newton to plead guilty

After the more serious charges against him were dropped, Matthew Newton will plead guilty to a lesser assault charge in a Sydney Court.

Newton's lawyer, high-profile legal eagle Chris Murphy, told a Local Court he would plead guilty on June 12 to one count of common assault.

The charges stem from the break-up with former girldfriend, Brooke Satchwell, currently shooting Canal Road for the Nine Network, the same network which is home to Newton's father, Bert.

The case has been adjourned to June 12.

Newton is set to re-appear in the second series of the TV1 sitcom Stupid, Stupid, Man.
