Top Models for Ten

News that TEN will soon screen America's Next Top Model isn't quite as exciting as it could have been.

Because Foxtel will retain first-air broadcast rights, TEN has had to go back to Series 6 from March 2006, while Foxtel is airing Series 8 (2007).

But at least those who don't have subscription TV will have access to it. Personally I'm feeling overwhelmed by all these shows that see scantily-clad young girls whether they are advertorials or reality contests. Maybe we need more women running television?

In Series 6 of the contest, the girls are taken off to Thailand for some cultural experiences.

America's Next Top Model will debut at 9:30pm on Friday July 6 and move to 7:30pm from August 3 after the final Big Brother Friday Night Live.

Airdate: Sea Patrol

Nine will premiere Sea Patrol at 8:30pm Thursday July 5.

A regular Thursday slot will pit the series against TEN's Law and Order: SVU and Lost / Heroes (in differing states).

Sea Patrol sounds very exciting although I would have liked to have seen a slot earlier in the week, which gives Nine a better springboard to plug other shows through the upcoming week.

But doubtless this will be Nine's biggest push all year for a hit. Here's hoping a new Aussie drama is it!

Gay, Straight or Token?

From early July Arena TV will air Gay, Straight or Taken a variation on the Bachelor and Playing it Straight formats in which a single woman is asked to choose the sexual identity and status of three men.

Unsurprisingly, just as Age of Love has a twist so does Gay, Straight or Taken.

There are eighteen eps in the American series which launches July 5. Each episode features a different single woman and 3 guys.

Gay, Straight, or Taken? puts a new spin on the traditional dating game show. One woman goes on a series of dates with three men and must rely on her intuition to figure out who is gay, straight, or already taken. She must correctly choose the straight man to win the grand prize, a dream trip for two. If she guesses incorrectly, the prize goes to the lucky man she chose and his partner.

Prime to bump Home Shopping

Seven's new Morning Show now airs on the Prime / GWN Network but only for the first hour due to prior network commitments with Home Shopping.

This means viewers in regional Victoria, NSW, Qld and WA are often "teased" with what's coming up in the second hour (10am - 11am) only to be denied the rest of the show.

However from late August, Prime / GWN looks set to replace Home Shopping with the second hour of TMS.

On its second day of ratings TMS put in another good performance at 223,000 to Kerri-Anne's 111,000 and David and Kim's 78,000. Ten saw a huge drop on the second day, without the benefit of the US Open golf lead-in.

Meanwhile regional broadcaster WIN Television is set to launch lunchtime show Susie with Susie Elelman from next Monday afternoon. her first guest is none other than old mate, Bert Newton.

Hosted by media personality Susie Elelman, "Susie" features a balanced mix of special guests, lifestyle and entertainment, as well as expert advice from regular guests on topical issues including health, family, career, relationships, beauty and fashion... plus some terrific competitions.
