Jay lands Homer

Get ready for Simpsonsmania to take over.

As the movie releases on July 26, there will be Springfield madness at every turn.

Jay Leno has scored an appearance by Homer on his show, restricted to the show's opening monologue.

"I understand I’m doing a monologue," said Homer. "I hope it doesn’t involve talking."

The appearance is on Tuesday July 24 (US).

Patinkin out of Minds

Mandy Patinkin is leaving Criminal Minds in a flurry of confusion and rumours about quite what went down....

Initial word on his departure suggests that Patinkin has left the production high and dry, citing "creative differences."

According to Producer Ed Bernero, "Mr. Patinkin told the show, the studios and the network that he was returning right up to the day before we started shooting the first episode, and then simply did not show up. He also has not contacted anyone within the show (producers, cast, crew) to explain why he isn't returning. Even to this moment, we have no word from him."

Since that statement Patinkin has agreed to return for one episode to round off his character story.

The actor also left Chicago Hope during its second season but later returned.

The drama returns to Seven next Monday night.

Durie vs Durie blitz

Jamie Durie will go head to head with... Jamie Durie, in a blitzing network programming move between Seven and Nine.

Nine is screening old episodes of Backyard Blitz, the show it has axed after describing the gardening genre as "exhausted." Seven, who has since signed Durie, will screen Australia's Best Backyards in the same 6:30pm Sunday timeslot from July 29.

Nine's Durie vehicle has been getting healthy ratings around 1.3m, a bitter irony given some of its other premium shows would be happy with that figure.

Seven's scheduling of the new show following the finale of Where Are They Now will doubtless capitalise on the "support act" programme that Nine has been screening. It always struck me that Nine should have buried the Durie show (pardon the pun) rather than keep interest in Durie alive when Seven was set to launch their own show.

This first episode, Not Many Left, sets up the series as Bindi takes us on a tour of her tree house, introducing her many animal friends along the way. The focus of the adventure however, is on the animals that need our help the most. With human intrusion destroying their habitats, more wildlife species are being pushed to the edge. Her mum Terri, Steve's best mate Wes, and her singing and dancing troop, The Crocmen, also drop in to introduce us to many of the animals which share Bindi's jungle home. Like a Noah's Ark, Bindi's tree house is constantly visited by all sorts of animals, such as her favourite cockatoo Ocker; Peru the Iguana; or one of her many gorgeous snakes like Blackie, the black-headed python. My 'stupid' Character

Neighbours actor Kyal Marsh, who plays Boyd Hoyland, has criticised the show's producers over the direction of his character.

Marsh is unhappy that Boyd was made to cheat on his wife 'Janae' (Eliza Taylor-Cotter).

"I thought it was a stupid storyline and I copped a lot of flack over it. I was really upset. My contract didn't get renewed but I was pretty happy to leave by then. I was ready to go. I was 14 when I joined. It was time to leave."

Marsh is now living in the UK with fellow Neighbours-ex Ben Nicholas, auditioning for West End roles.
