Nine news boss quits

Garry Linnell, Director of News and Current Affairs for Nine has resigned after only 14 months in the role.
"It has become clear to me in recent weeks that I do not have the full support of the company," he said in a statement. "This has placed me in an untenable position.

"The news and current affairs culture at Nine is the strongest and most committed in the country, and I am proud to have had the opportunity to work alongside the best in the business."

In recent weeks there has been much speculation that his position was offered to Seven Network's, Adam Boland, producer of Sunrise and The Morning Show. Boland is said to have declined the offer, which was to take effect once his contract ends with Seven in February.

Such public airing of network machinations reflected poorly on Garry Linnell, who was always under the microscope given his background was in print journalism. The former editor of The Bulletin was yet another appointee of Eddie McGuire's to have enjoyed a short stint with the network.

It will air on Sunday mornings from September 9before moving to a Saturday midday slot later in the year.

Press Release:

The third series of Vodafone Live at The Chapel returns to television screens on Sunday 9 September at 10.30am, with a new broadcasting partner, a stellar line up of artists and new behind the scenes footage. Channel 7 is delighted to screen Australia’s premier live music series in this suitably sacred time slot for nine weeks, before shifting to a Saturday midday slot, commencing 17 November.

The series kicks off with the sweet and soulful Missy Higgins, followed by indie heroes, John Butler Trio, balladeer Josh Pyke, Australia’s number one dance act, Sneaky Sound System and the electro pop Rogue Traders, with more Australian and International artists to be recorded in the next few months for broadcast later in the season.

All Vodafone Live at The Chapel performances will be broadcast shortly after their recording, giving fans an opportunity to experience up to date performances of new material. The season will also screen weekly on MTV.

Vodafone Live at The Chapel is widely recognised as Australia ’s premier live music show, with each artist performance recorded in the intimate environment of Chapel Off Chapel in Melbourne . Each episode is recorded in High Definition to ensure outstanding visual quality, giving viewers approximately double the lines of resolution to provide richer detail. To achieve state of the art sound quality, the audio for each performance is recorded at 96 kilobytes and mixed in Dolby 5.1 surround sound.

The Chapel experience is a fantastic way for viewers to get behind them scenes and seriously close to some of the hottest established and breaking new artists around. And in 2007, an entirely new format has been introduced. Each episode features four to five songs plus exclusive behind the scenes footage where the artist gets down and dirty with a select group of friends and associates to discuss songs, lyrics, and previous gigs. Viewers should also watch out for footage from the Chapels’ very own ‘Confession Booth’ where audience members visit to share their intimate thoughts on the performance.

Tony McGinn, Executive Producer of the series and CEO of mcm entertainment said “We’re very excited that the third season of Vodafone Live at The Chapel will be broadcast on the highest rating network - Channel 7. Vodafone Live at The Chapel is going to be on everyone’s lips this year!”
