Bad Girls Season 4 premiere

Long abandoned by FTA TV, Season 4 of Bad Girls will premiere on UKTV on Friday March 9th at 9:30pm.

The smash hit drama series set behind the bars of a women's prison is back. Separated from their homes, children and lovers, the women struggle to cope with the harsh reality of this hidden world.

Bad Girls doesn't shy away from portraying the cruelties and tense relationships inside the prison system, but it also captures the warmth and humour needed to survive it. In series four the storylines get darker and more fast-paced. Jim Fenner is sexually harassed by the new Governor, Neil Grayling. Di Barker and Barry Pearce’s relationship suffers from domestic violence and teenage junkie Buki Lester battles for the right to see her disabled son, Lennox. The series ends with the prison library being obliterated as part of an escape plan by the devious Snowball Merriman, resulting in a fire that leaves Governor Grayling and several inmates trapped and fighting for their lives. Stars: Nicole Faraday (Casualty), Jack Ellis (Prime Suspect), James Gaddas (Casualty), Kim Oliver (The Bill) and Andrew Lancel (The Bill.) Read more...

Kylie Showgirl on ABC

The ABC will screen Kylie's Showgirl Homecoming Tour on Sunday March 4 at 8.30pm.

This 90-minute uninterrupted television event was filmed at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena in December 2006.

I went to this concert and it was a great spectacle for the hometown crowd. To air uninterrupted will be fab.

KYLIE SHOWGIRL HOMECOMING TOUR is a completely revamped version of the Showgirl Greatest Hits Tour, and captures Kylie's excitement at being able to share a truly unique concert experience with Australia.

“This is one of the most enchanting looking shows you will ever see - with the work of arguably the world’s three best choreographers, beautiful stage and lighting design, and Kylie’s finesse over the whole project. I’ve recorded literally a hundred live broadcasts for TV, but this was far and away the most exciting I’ve ever been involved with.” said Producer Paul Clarke (Love is in the Air, Long Way to the Top).

The production also features new, show-stopping costumes from the world’s leading designers including Karl Lagerfeld, John Galliano, Dolce & Gabbana, Gareth Pugh, and up-and-coming Perth-born designer, Richard Niccoll.

The famed Lido of Paris loaned Kylie's 13 dancers spectacular headdresses and classic feather costumes, never before seen outside France.

“Kylie is much-loved and respected by so many Australians, so we are very pleased to be able to bring this fabulous show to Australian audiences”, says Marena Manzoufas, ABC TV Head of Programming.

Seven shakes up Sundays

In arguably it's most over-due make-over, Seven has unleashed its new-look Sunday programming. But it won't kick off until Week 2 of the Ratings.

Australia's Got Talent will debut on Sunday Feb 18 at 6:30pm. Hosted by Grant Denyer it will feature Dannii Minogue and Red Symons. The scheduling of this show could create problems for It Takes Two later in the year (Remember The X Factor giving us talent fatigue?).

Ugly Betty will premiere at 7:30pm, taking 60 Minutes head-on.

This is a brash move by Seven, but the hype for Betty will be enormous. Nine's current affairs juggernaut will need its best ammo for the first week. They'll be hoping for a big news week there.

At 8:30pm Grey's Anatomy season 3 kicks off. Again, the boldness of Seven is surprising. Normally this show alternates when the Housewives conclude. Seven must be confident it still has enough new product for the second half of the year.

What About Brian? premieres at 9:30pm. Another new American drama.

Sundays have long been a problem for Seven. Last year it had movies, nostalgia, variety, specials...with very little consistency or success. The audience likes familiarity and Nine's 60 Minutes / CSI double worked well, as did Ten's Idol / Big Brother evictions.

So why hasn't this launched on night one of ratings Feb 11? Perhaps because Nine has cricket left in its arsenal. And I suspect the Denyer talent show probably wasn't quite ready yet either.

Securing a big audience on the cosiest night of the week gives you a strong lead for the week, and a showcase to promote the next seven days. This cannot be underestimated.

Finally it seems Seven hasn't.

Nerds rule.... again.

Great to hear that the Nerds FC are coming back this year!

This was a joyous little reality show on SBS last year, that wasn't riddled with ridiculing the participants ...well at least any more than they were already doing themselves.

This year the Nerds will play a team of footy legends.

They've also recorded a song with former Idol contestant Chris Murphy.

Starring JASON LEE, ETHAN SUPLEE, NADINE VELAZQUEZ, EDDIE STEEPLES and JAIME PRESSLY. Series one eps wtill played out of sequence. Not an encouraging start. [Seven/9:10pm] Lost: A TALE OF SURVIVAL. In this special episode of LOST, new viewers will get an overview of the story so far and current viewers get the opportunity to discover some clues they may have missed previously. Season One dealt with the fuselage survivors, the hatch and a failed attempt to get off the island. Season Two continued these stories and also introduced viewers to Desmond - the man responsible for inputting the numbers into the hatch computer system - the survivors of the tail section and Henry Gale, who turned out to be the leader of 'The Others.' This special puts these two seasons together in a linear fashion to provide an illuminating view on a compelling story. See the sequence of events in the aftermath of the crash of flight 815, the failed raft attempt, the opening of the hatch, how the tail section and fuselage survivors lived separately and the unwitting intersections of their lives in one catastrophic moment, the implosion of the hatch and the capture of Jack, Kate and Sawyer by 'The Others.'

[Seven/10:10pm] Beauty and the Geek. Final.

[ABC/8:30pm] The Life and Times of El Nino. The massive fluctuations that El Nino causes in the world's weather systems have changed the course of history. Unusually cold winters and the resulting poor crops helped forment the French Revolution. Hitler's march across Russia was halted by one of the harshest winters on record. Severe drought in India in 1877 killed millions while a drop in sea temperatures, leading to dwindling food stocks, precipitated the fall of the mighty Aztecs. Would these events have happened without the impact of El Nino? This compelling documentary investigates El Nino; its history; its rise from little known occurrence to headline grabbing phenomenon; and whether its devastating power can be accurately predicted, or possibly even harnessed. Charting the rise of El Nino in the world's consciousness, this intriguing documentary combines history and science to show how this meteorological monster has affected global economy and political history. As knowledge of El Nino grows, increasingly sophisticated super computer models have been developed to predict global effects and allow vulnerable communities to try to adapt. Scientists are confident that they will soon be able to predict El Nino a year in advance. But now there is a new threat - global warming. The race is now on to find out what effect this will have on El Nino, and the future of this planet.
