Alan Dale joins Sea Patrol

Mr Everywhere, otherwise known as Alan Dale, has managed to find time in his schedule to take up a guest role in the second season of Sea Patrol.

Dale, who has appeared in The OC, Ugly Betty, Lost and NCIS will join the cast who began rehearsing the new series in Sydney this week. With the exception of Josh Lawson, all the regular cast members are returning.

The drama was greenlighted for a second season by Nine at the launch of the first series. It has been Nine's only real new hit of 2007, but amid a mixed critical response the show has recently attracted figures of around 1.2 - 1.3m viewers, well behind its 2m premiere.

Dale's recurring role may also be part of the series' arc which helps qualify the production for funding under the "miniseries" banner. The current season, which ends next week, managed to abet its funding via an ongoing storyline involving actress Sibylla Budd.

Dale is a good actor and it will be great to see him in a role with his own accent again!

Press Release:

The Nine Network today announced the popular drama mini-series, Sea Patrol, is back in production with internationally acclaimed LA-based actor Alan Dale (Neighbours, OC, Ugly Betty) joining the cast.

In Sea Patrol – The Coup, Dale will make a special guest appearance as Ray Walsman, an International mining entrepreneur, throughout the 13-episode series. He joins the regular naval crew headed by Lisa McCune, Ian Stenlake and Saskia Burmeister.

Other core cast members returning to the program are John Batchelor, Matt Holmes, Jeremy Lindsay Taylor, David Lyons, Jay Ryan, Kristian Schmid and Steve Bisley . This week they started rehearsals in Sydney before heading north in two weeks to commence shooting at Mission Beach , Cairns and on the Gold Coast.

The other key element of the program, the Royal Australian Navy with its vessels and crew, is also back at work. The new series will feature a state-of-the-art $60 million, Armidale-class patrol boat as the Sea Patrol’s HMAS Hammersley.

“It is great to be back in production. Having the actors together for the first week of rehearsals always brings the story alive for us and the writing team, who have been working on the scripts for the past 11 months,” said producer Di McElroy.

Nine’s Head of Drama, Jo Horsburgh, said: “We are delighted with the strong connection Sea Patrol has had with our audience for the first mini-series, which still has two weeks to run on air.

“We believe the second series will deliver all the elements of the first and more. It is particularly exciting to welcome Alan Dale back to Australia in an important guest role.”

Producer Hal McElroy said: “A show such as Sea Patrol is not possible without enormous investment from all our partners and we want to thank them for their contribution: the Nine Network, Pacific Film and Television Office, Film Finance Corporation of Australia and Portman Media.”

I love this man but I hate the fact that he's joining the cast of Sea Patrol. I haven't been watching since I saw a dead woman breathing in the Pilot. Call me fussy but that sort of blatant oversight in the FIRST EPISODE was enough to put me off. Sadly, not even Saskia Burmeister was enough to keep me watching as the scripts were dryer than... my skin. :P

I thought he was great on The O.C. and he was a very valuable asset to the show, but unfortunately the stupid producers killed him off because they couldn't think of anything to do with him. I think his demise was the REAL reason why The O.C. was cancelled. Without the dynamic that his character moulded, the show became incredibly stale.

Looking forward to seeing Mr Dale on Torchwood though. :D He is gonna be on Torchwood right? :P

I was a big critic of Sea Patrol at the start ... because it was honestly crap at first ... but after about three episodes everyone suddenly remembered how to act and the stories become more fast paced ... now it is a must watch ... I want to know what the big mystery is about that island!
