shark finning
Local fisherman in Raja Ampat, Indonesia after a day or shark finning. Fins are drying on the deck while the bodies of juvenile black tips roll on the shallow reef below the boat. The fisherman paid the equivalent of USD30 for a license to fin sharks for 30 days. Given about 2% of a sharks weight is in its fins, that results in 98% of the shark going to waste. Not to mention the cruel and destructive practice of slicing the fins off the live shark and dumping the shark in the water to slowly drown.
