ESH Leadership Message

Ken Meashey Lockheed Martin embraces many of today's most-complex technological challenges and provides customers with high-quality, innovative solutions in fields ranging from space exploration and aeronautics to information technology and homeland security. Our customers expect the same level of quality and innovation in our environmental leadership. And we expect it of ourselves.

We continually strive to ensure that our employees are safe and that our operations do not adversely impact the environment. Four years ago, Lockheed Martin established the Target Zero safety program, with an objective to create a workplace free from accidents and injuries. Today, “Target Zero” is the guiding principle driving not only our safety program, but our energy, environment and “go green” initiatives as well.

We have set ambitious ESH goals for 2008, and we are implementing creative new programs to help us achieve those goals. For example, we have established an absolute 5 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions as well as separate reduction goals for waste and water consumption in 2008, and we continue to look for ways to reduce our energy consumption and improve our energy efficiency. Our Global Supply Chain organization is working with suppliers to encourage them to develop similar programs. Throughout ESH, we are focused not merely on compliance but on optimizing our systems to reduce risks and proof against mistakes.

At the same time, Lockheed Martin continues to further integrate ESH into its strategic planning and daily operations. Today, ESH activities are incorporated into the Corporation's LM21 Operating Excellence program, which means that all Lockheed Martin businesses now are required to consider environmental, safety and health imperatives as they chart their path to overall performance excellence.

In 2008 and beyond, Lockheed Martin is committed to providing critical products and services that benefit society while also ensuring that our operations are sustainable and that our employees and communities are healthy and safe.
