Capturing our Legacy - The Lockheed Martin Historical Collection

China ClipperThe Lockheed Martin Legacy Program is an effort to preserve and share the rich history of the Lockheed Martin Corporation through the establishment of a Historical Collection. Enterprise Services-Records Management holds the responsibility for the Legacy Program.  The project's current activities center around identifying historical and memorabilia items related to the Corporation's key products, programs, events, and people. This includes key historical documents, records, hardware, and other materials.

The key elements of the program include:

  • Determining where these materials are located at our facilities and other areas.
  • Reviewing, screening and recovering those materials of historical or educational interest.
  • Working to identify permanent locations such as a Lockheed Martin facility/education center for sharing with employees and customers, or in museums, science and educational centers, and universities for sharing with the public.

It is not the intention of Lockheed Martin to create a Historical Collection that is open to the public.  Select items will remain internal to the Corporation.  Historical artifacts will be donated to museums, science and educational center, and universities in order to share Lockheed Martin's history with the public.

Oral history is a process that aids in the reconstruction of the past and in preserving and documenting culture. Oral history interviews are valuable sources of knowledge about the past and offer new interpretive perspectives on it.  Lockheed Martin is currently working to capture select oral history interviews with key individuals regarding our significant accomplishments, events, programs, innovations, and technical accomplishments.

Historical Collection
The Lockheed Martin Historical Collection contains historically significant assets and records relating to the history, administration, and operation of the Corporation.  The contents of the Historical Collection are reflected in an inventory database for Lockheed Martin Corporation.
