Diversity And Equal Employment Opportunity

A great place to start

Philosophy on Diversity

At Lockheed Martin, we recognize that diversity is not just a short-term trend. It is a business imperative. It’s about creating an environment that welcomes, respects and leverages our individual differences as a competitive strength.

Diversity goes beyond legal requirements such as Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity. Lockheed Martin is fully committed to racial and ethnic equality; however, we recognize that there are infinite qualities that make people unique. These include their beliefs, job experiences, cultural backgrounds and intellectual perspectives to name but a few.

We take our commitment to diversity and inclusion seriously. We don’t just state our commitment, we live it. We are dedicated to a process that listens to the voices of our employees and partners to help shape our course. It is through this process that we set goals and develop a strategy that will hold us accountable for making Lockheed Martin a place of what we call "institutionalized inclusion”—that is, the very essence and fabric of how we do business.

Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action

Diversity is often mistaken for Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Affirmative Action.  EEO and Affirmative Action are based on legal requirements. While diversity takes on much broader dimensions, there is no question that we could not fulfill our commitment to diversity without our full dedication to meeting the letter and the spirit of EEO and Affirmative Action.

EEO laws help to ensure that race, sex, national origin and other legally protected characteristics are not considered in employment decisions. EEO is derived from federal, state and local laws that govern all employment-related actions.

Affirmative Action regulations help us remove the barriers of hiring and the advancement of minorities, women, individuals with disabilities and covered veterans. Our Affirmative Action plans simply help us identify the effort will we take to increase representation of these groups in our workforce. It’s all about creating an even playing field where everybody has a fair chance to reach their full potential in contributing to our business.

Lockheed Martin’s commitment in this area has been recognized externally by other organizations. G.I. Jobs magazine ranked Lockheed Martin as one of the top military-friendly employers. Careers & the Disabled magazine rated the company as one of the best for people with disabilities. These are just a few of our honors and achievements.
