 For Marines stationed aboard amphibious ships, maintaining peak proficiency and constantly honing their weapons skills have become increasingly more challenging.
The Deployable Virtual Training Environment (DVTE) provides the training solution that embarked Marines need. DVTE is a flexible, mobile, shipboard and shore training system that provides Marine Air Ground Task Force (MAGTF) and Naval Integration training. DVTE uses an all-commercial, off the shelf (COTS) laptop-and-joystick hardware suite, including a simulation network with re-configurable workstations capable of emulating a wide variety of weapon systems. While in transit aboard a deployed amphibious ship, Marines can use the DVTE to simulate a synthetic natural environment and engage in virtual combat scenarios. Marines can build individual MAGTF skills in this virtual environment using the Joint Semi-Autonomous Force (JSAF) model as its basis. Now thanks to the flexibility and mobility of DVTE, Marines can keep their weapons skills sharp no matter where they are deployed.
