The Office of Institutional Research (OIR) is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data about the College in support of internal decision-making and planning. The office also complies with requests from external agencies. The OIR has one full-time employee, an assistant director, and reports directly to the assistant vice president for academic administration. Accreditation: St. Mary’s College is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The Carnegie Foundation Classification for the College is “Baccalaureate – Arts and Sciences.” SMCM was awarded a Phi Beta Kappa chapter in the fall of 1997.
Typical annual costs: for 2008-2009 for a full-time student living on campus with room and board: $21,829 (Maryland residents) and $32,679 (out-of-state students).
Student organizations in Fall 2008: 110 campus clubs and organizations and 8 national honorary societies (including a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa).
Athletic teams: NCAA Division III teams: Baseball (Men only), Basketball, Field Hockey (Women only), Lacrosse, Soccer, Tennis, Swimming, and Volleyball (women only). In addition, the nationally ranked SMCM Varsity Sailing Team competes in ICSA sponsored events.
