Consul General Tom Armbruster

Tom Armbruster has served in Finland, Cuba, Russia, Mexico, and most recently Tajikistan where he was Deputy Chief of Mission.

Career highlights include leading negotiations with Russia on a treaty in force on emergency response, leading a Ministerial delegation from Tajikistan to Kabul for a first-ever Tajik-Afghan counter narcotics conference, and working with Diplomatic Security in Mexico to break up a visa fraud ring, resulting in the arrest and conviction of an American.

Assignments abroad have included administrative, consular, environment, science and technology, and political positions, and in Washington he has handled polar affairs and U.S.-Russian bilateral issues.

Temporary duty assignments include Kabul, Afghanistan and the United Nations in New York.

Tom is a graduate of the U.S. Naval War College where he received a Masters in Strategic Studies and authored U.S.-Russian Nuclear Cooperation: Actionable Intelligence, and he has a Masters from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas in International Conflict Resolution.

Tom's feature articles have appeared in Chesapeake Bay Magazine, Foreign Service Journal, Above and Beyond, and State Magazine.

Tom is married to Kathy Armbruster. They have two children, Bryan and Kalia, who grew up in the Foreign Service.
