Dear TFK...

Each week on timeforkids.com, we publish letters we receive from kids around the country. You can have a chance to get your letter published too. Just write to us and tell us what you think about the articles you read in the magazine this week. Make sure that your first name, last initial, age and state are all included.

We love hearing from TFK readers. Send your thoughts to [email protected].

An Eye In the Sky

I hope that the NASA's Kepler mission is successful and that we do find signs of life in outer space ["Looking for Life," 3/20]. Even if we don't find life in this galaxy, there may be life in other galaxies.
Val M., 10, MA

I hope Kepler finds a planet like Earth. I might want to live on it.
Matthew P., 10, MA

Fighting for Frogs

I can't believe that so many frogs are at risk ["Out of the Wild," 3/27]. I love amphibians, especially frogs. They have a very important role. They keep insect populations controlled. If they die out, the predators that eat them may die out too. I hope scientists find a cure for the fungus disease.
Greg, 11, MA

Nut News

I am very excited that scientists may have found a cure for peanut allergies ["A Nut Allergy Cure?" 3/27]. I am allergic to peanuts too. I would like to try the therapy, but the article specifically states: "Do not try this at home!" If this therapy works, I wouldn't have to check whatever I eat to see if it has nuts in it.
Eve W. 10, CT

Ready to Grow!

It's great to see that many schools are taking up gardening ["Lessons from the Garden," 4/3]. It's a perfect way to show kids how delicious foods grow from tiny seeds. I feel this experience will help build self-confidence and teach students that with a little hard work, you can reap a bountiful harvest!
William L., 10, CT

Do the kids from Woodland grow an organic garden? At my school, we have an organic garden. We use all organic fertilizers and conserve water by using rain barrels. All school gardens should use rain barrels and organic fertilizers to help the environment.
Alejandra R., 12, FL

To tell you the truth, I think learning about plants is a little boring. But I bet having hands-on experience like tending to a school garden would excite students and help them pay better attention in class. I hope the popularity for this program keeps progressing. I'd be delighted to see my school pick it up.
Zoe, 10, MA

A Teeny, Tiny Car

I am happy that the Nano is not available in the United States ["A Cheap Ride," 4/3]. Tiny cars won't do well on highways here. The larger cars will crush them easily. Also, if the engine is in the back and the car gets hit from the back, the engine will be damaged. Maybe the Nano needs some adjustments.
Kiran V., 10, MA

I think it's great that companies are making smaller and less expensive cars. However, since the car can only go up to 65 miles per hour, what if a fast maneuver was needed for safety reasons? For example, dodging a vehicle that is about to crash or maybe even having to deal with a drunk driver that is not driving safely. Would the car be safe enough?
Jake, 10, MA

Tragedy Strikes Italy

The earthquake in Italy was very shocking ["A Quake Rocks Italy," 4/17]. I hope everyone who was injured recovers soon.
Alexandria R., 11, NY

The earthquake in Italy sounds completely devastating. People lost their homes and their towns. I wouldn't even want to imagine what would happen if there was an earthquake in Colorado.
De'vaun A., 11, CO

Don't Trouble the Water

I was shocked to learn that only 1% of the Earth's 326 quintillion gallons of water is available for people to drink ["Water Worries," 4/17]. I'm going to try to conserve as much water as I can now. Thanks for filling me in!
Samantha, 11, MA

I never knew there are people around the globe who can't even afford clean water. I thought water was just water. Now I know it is something much more precious. I am so lucky to have clean water to drink every day. From now on, I will turn off the tap when I'm not using it.
Jessica L., 10, MA
