As in years past, Phillyist will be counting down to 2010 every workday of December, presenting you with our highlights from the past year and our predictions for the next. If you have a list you'd like to submit, let us know!
Amanda and Tobin go off in search of the Kingfisher brewery and end up here instead. Bummer, guys. Did you at least buy some beer?
LAist Film Editor Josh Tate contacted us about a month ago to see if we'd be interested in running an interview of his. The interview, you see, was with mewithoutYou, who it turns out is based here in Philly—and they have a couple of area shows coming up in the near future. Naturally, in the spirit of the season (and because we love fresh, local content), we agreed to share Josh's interview, which is excerpted below, along with information about the area shows. A link to the full interview follows.
Technology and policy site Ars Technica is reporting that Comcast has settled a class action law suit filed by users of its broadband internet service who allege that the Phialdelphia-based cable, telephone, and internet service provider was capping their download speeds. The caps were levied primarily at users of the popular BitTorrent protocol, a peer-to-peer file sharing system that allows users to download large amounts of data in a relatively short time span by breaking the files up into small pieces and downloading only a few pieces from each user on a large network of people who already have the file.
Not quite ready to let go of that warm glow of your favorite part of the winter season? Afraid that after the 25th comes and goes you'll start to run low on cheer and have to replace it with those gallon jugs of wine from the state store? Don't worry—the World Cafe Live won't let it get that far. The day after Christmas sees the arrival of Yosi and his band of Superdads ready and willing to perform a Christmas/Hanukkah themed family show. Part of WCL's Peanut Butter and Jams series, the doors open at 11a.m., with concert starting at 11:30. There is a lunch buffet available (I've written how I feel about that spread before, so pointing out how awful it is a second time is unnecessary) and tickets run from $10 for adults and $7 for kids, with a 20% discount off all grownup tickets purchased with cash at the box office before the day of the show.

Hey guys, remember that thing we've been plugging all month? That awesome photo competition thing called Phillyist Framed? Well, not only are we super psyched about Opening Night on January 29th at Studio 34, but now we're extra special happy because we have found... (drumroll please) an after party location! Once we're finished gawking and handing out the awards at the marvelous multi-purpose venue that is Studio 34, we're headed down the street and around the corner to Local 44 for celebratory drinks! Local 44 is a "neighborhood beer joint" that has just about every brew you could possibly imagine on tap. West Philly doesn't often get enough credit for some of the cool things it has to offer and happy to be working with two stellar local businesses in this oft under-appreciated area of town.
