As baseball season was starting last year, former Chicago Cub Milton Bradley signed a lease for a luxury Magnificent Mile condo, a $15,000-a-month lease that his landlord claims he walked out on this past October. The landlord and the realty company that helped lease the 24th-floor Park Hyatt condo, 800 N. Michigan Ave., are both suing Bradley for $44,100 in back rent, late fees, and interest through January. They will also be seeking further rent payments until the lease runs out.

The amount of money being sought is just a little bit more than the per-game total that Bradley was paid by the Cubs last season. His three-year, $30 million contract called for him to receive $7 million last year--which roughly approximates to $43,000 per game.

Papers filed in Cook County Circuit Court show that Bradley began renting the unit April 1, 2009--and stopped playing for the Cubs in October when their season ended. "Bradley abandoned the Leased Premises on or about Oct. 12, 2009," the suit states. Bradley was sent a "demand letter" for rent the following month, according to the suit. An "agent for Bradley" acknowledged the letter, but Bradley never wrote a check, the landlord alleges.

The realty company, Greenleaf Realty, has tried to ease Bradley's monetary loss by attempting to lease the condo, but they haven't had any luck so far. Bradley was traded to the Seattle Mariners on Dec. 18. [Chicago Sun-Times]

It was mentioned in the comments of this post yesterday, so - if you haven't seen it yet - here it is: Jimmy Kimmel destroying Leno on Leno's show. Amazing.

Four people were injured--one critically--in a rollover crash at 95th Street on the southbound Dan Ryan at 3:30 a.m. early Saturday morning, according to Illinois State Police District Trooper Teressa Allen. Four men between the ages of 19-25 were driving in a 2003 Chevy Tahoe when they tried to cut across three lanes while traveling at a high speed, Allen said to the Chicago Sun-Times. The driver lost control and rolled the car 360 degrees where it finally came to a stop upside down on a guardrail.

We're sorry to say that last weekend was the first time we'd ventured to Chicago Sketchfest - we had no idea what we were missing. Now in its ninth year, the two-weekend event is the largest sketch-comedy festival in the country. With 113 groups doing 149 shows, it's impossible to see everything. We managed to catch four groups in a Saturday night comedy marathon - if the talent we saw is any indication, you'll want to head to the Theatre Building this weekend.

The Bulls hit the road on a winning note after edging the Washington Wizards 121-119 in double overtime, their fourth-straight win. A tight game throughout, Washington led by as man as seven early in the fourth, but Chicago chipped away at the lead and a Derrick Rose jumper with less than 30 seconds left tied the game to force overtime. A John Salmons layup with 14 seconds left in overtime forced the second extra period where a late 5-1 run, capped by a Derrick Rose jumper with five seconds left, clinched the win for the Bulls. Rose had a monster game with 37 points, 9 rebounds, and six assists. Kirk Hinrich added 19, Joakim Noah had a 17-15, and Luol Deng added 17 points of his own. In spite of the struggles and the calls to fire Coach Vinny, the 18-20 Bulls would make the playoffs if the season ended today, sitting in eight place in the NBA's Eastern Conference and only a half-game back of seventh. The Bulls now begin their long Disney-on-Ice roadtrip, tipping off Monday at Golden State (3 p.m., WGN).

The thawing continues but that's about the only eventful weather item on deck for the weekend. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Uneventful weather this time (or any time) of year is welcome. Highs will reach the mid 30s under overcast skies and the slush will pile up as the snow continues to melt. Lows overnight will be in the mid-20s.

Thanks to the recent heat wave, we've actually been making it out to bars lately. Otherwise, we would just sit at home and drink pants-less in front of the TV. Either way, we're hungover the next day. Thankfully, Neo-Futurists' Sean Benjamin and Steve Mosqueda of the Drinking & Writing Brewery Radio Show may have found the perfect remedy. Every Saturday at 4 p.m. until the end of January, they'll be performing Drinking & Writing Volume III: How to Cure A Hangover in Andersonville at Hopleaf Bar.

The Suburban Cook County Regional Office of Education superintendent was arrested yesterday and his bond was set at $100,000 this morning after prosecutors say Flowers dipped his hand into the office's cookie jar to the tune of $376,000, a third of the office's current $1 million debt. He's been charged with felony theft and official misconduct.
