What's playing this weekend at Seattle's movie theatres? We'll tell you what's playing this weekend!

  • SIFF's Kurosawa-sensei, paying homage to the unchallenged master of Japanese cinema, kicks off tonight with one of Kurosawa's early films, the nail-biting police drama Stray Dog. A young Toshiro Mifune stars in this taut, beautifully framed tale of a young police detective's increasingly desperate race to track down his stolen firearm.

Each month, City Arts' Dish-Off challenges two chefs to prepare a dish based on a song. This month's may be the most provocative to date. more ›

Regardless, we chose instead to do a recipe on homemade buffalo wings because that's what they want, what they love, and more importantly, what they'll eat (and hopefully thank you for). This was our first time making buffalo wings, and we were actually quite shocked by just exactly how much they taste like any others that you might get with a drunken pizza delivery order. If we would have realized long ago how easy they were to make on our own, there would have been many past Super Bowls where they would have been a favorite. more ›

Chris Bushnell, Senior Advisor to Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn resigned yesterday afternoon after it was revealed that he lied about having a doctoral degree from the University of Washington. He was also convicted in 1994 of felony bank fraud, although McGinn says he knew about Bushnell’s criminal record when he hired him. more ›

ARJ BARKER:Come on, come on, step right up. Hurry, hurry, hurry. You, madam, do you like comedy? A little titter in your twitter every now and again? You, sir! Are you a fan of the heartfelt guffaw? If so, then come right in the Parlor, where tonight and tomorrow you can catch that veteran of stand-up, the scene-stealing character actor of Flight of the Conchords, that mop-headed muppet of mirth: the incomparable Arj Barker. 7:30 and 10:00 p.m. // Parlor // Tickets: $15 more ›

We were lucky enough to catch Sea Wolf open for Okkervil River in late 2008. Naturally, we were thrilled to learn of the band's return (this time with long-time favorites The Album Leaf). Since we last saw them, lead Wolf Alex Brown Church has been quite busy with a new album, tour with Phoenix and song on the New Moon soundtrack under his belt. In advance of the band’s show at Neumos this Saturday, we were album to catch up with Alex. more ›

Tonight's the Seattle Art Museum's First Thursday event, which means you can get in free after hours. If you haven't seen the SAM's current exhibition of Alexander Calder mobiles, you're missing out -- Calder's work is truly stunning: miniscule mobiles that could double as earrings, towering monstrosities teetering precariously on a single lever, and beautifully abstract visual art. more ›

Mackie disputes the amount of the suit - Hipple said he expects to be sued for $60,000, and in an email to CHS Capitol Hill Seattle, his lawyers stated that they believe the suit would be between $30,000 and $80,000. Mackie says those figures are a "fantasy," that "no one is talking numbers," and that he'll be happy with getting his legal fees covered. Yes, anyone can make a photograph of my work. What they can not do is use my work for their profit without any contact with me...(Hipple) is playing pretty loose with the facts here and in many other claims. more ›

ONCE UPON A DREAM: Tchaikovsky is the King of Ballet. There is none higher. He composed three of the most widely loved and artistically immaculate ballets in history -- Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, and, of course, The Sleeping Beauty -- and it’s difficult to imagine anyone ever topping the contribution that he made to the art. We all know the classic story of Sleeping Beauty; Fairies flit wild, girl gets cursed, boy meets girl and lifts curse, girl meets boy, wedding bells chime. But beginning tonight, we have the opportunity to see it all unfold as the ballet is performed by one of the country’s most acclaimed production companies. There’s no better way to celebrate the season of Love and springing out of the winter doldrums. The Sleeping Beauty was Tchaikovsky’s first major success 120 years ago. We would have loved it then too. more ›

Winter hasn’t exactly broken our spirits this year. We’d like to complain, but we just can’t. That doesn’t mean we can’t pine for summer, though, what with its warm weather and sunny days that remind us that color really does exist in nature, barbecues, outdoor drinks, lake time, music festivals…what were we saying? Oh right. It looks like we have another reason to be psyched for summer - GreenNote, an acoustic music festival and green expo taking place at Myrtle Edwards Park on July 24th and 25th. more ›

We tasted beers that featured bacon, peppermint, smoked malt, pumpkins, and even a nettle beer. However, the event went from happy stroll in the parking lot to clusterfuck in a hurry, in part because the owners and staff of the Water Street did not put fans outside on standby. It would have been helpful they considered safety first, even if it meant shedding some people at the door while retaining those inside. more ›
