Visioneers will be released on DVD July 21, but the guys at the Alamo love the movie so much that they’re hosting a screening on Sunday night. No matter how you go about it, we highly recommend that you check out this darkly funny and refreshingly unconventional film.

The Austin Film Society is closing out their celebration of Fredric March's comedic films with this poignant number at the Alamo Downtown tonight. Certainly a few aspects of The Best Years of Our Lives seem dated, but overall the film still packs a powerful dramatic punch.

Think a giant, disembodied penis coming out of the sky to crush a frantic little animated cinnamon bun is funny? If you said "no", quit trying to act all genteel and get over to the Alamo Downtown for this year's edition of Spike and Mike's Sick & Twisted animation fest.

The inimitably awesome Crispin Glover will be coming to the Alamo Downtown February 9 through 11, to screen two films he directed and to give an introductory slide show called "The Big Slide Show". After the films, he will answer questions. ("How did you get that way?" is probably off limits as a question.)

Sunday, 1/13, 10pm at the Alamo Downtown, the big Dick cast and Austin's premiere naughty boy band, Cedar Fever, will thrill and excite you with performances, sing-alongs, and heaven knows what else.

Tonight at the Alamo Downtown, $2 Music Monday will feature a documentary by local filmmaker Samuel Wainwright Douglas: Holy Modal Rounders: Bound to Lose.

Any publicity is good publicity. Such is the case with Director Brian De Palma's newest controversy du jour, Redacted, which will see a limited run at the Alamo Downtown starting this evening. This film has garnered both praise and outrage from a varied panel of critics, earning the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival for De Palma and the scorn of conservative pundit Bill O'Reilly and the Boycott Redacted crew.

Back in August, we told you a little bit about the Dismember the Alamo Zombie Film Fest happening at the Alamo Lake Creek this week. And because we love us some zombies (who doesn't?), we figured we'd remind you about it, and quickly run down the programming, which is mostly focused on intentionally goofy flicks, but still looks pretty great. Check it! Pathogen with Writer/Director Emily Hagins Live! Tuesday October 23rd, 7:30pm We're kind of...

Back in June, after Mayor Wynn gave his global warming presentation at the Alamo Downtown, the funnymen at Master Pancake Theater performed a special one-off skewering of Roland Emmerich's cheeseball disaster flick The Day After Tomorrow. Sad you missed it? Well cheer up, sunshine, because the show went over so well that the one-off has now become an eleven-off! Starting tomorrow, the Master Pancake guys (aided by guest comedian Scott Chester) will roast The Day...

As everyone knows by now, today is (sniffle) the Alamo Downtown's last day in operation--at its current location, at least. And they're going out with a bang, offering a fabulous feast to accompany Big Night, shaking things up with Earthquake, and freaking you out with Night Warning featuring Susan Tyrrell live. Everything's mad sold out, of course, but there "may" be standby tickets available for Earthquake and Night Warning ($30 for each film, $75 for...

If the Italian name of the vampires-in-space sci-fi movie playing tonight at the Alamo Downtown (that would be "TERRORE NELLO SPAZIO") doesn't give you a thrill of glee, how about this line of the description? "...the crew soon discovers the crashed Argos—and learns that her crew died fighting each other!" No? You have a hard and boring heart, my friend. This film, part of the AFS' summer foreign scifi series, "Other Minds, Other Worlds: Global...

It's the second-last Music Monday at the original Alamo Downtown, so if you haven't been in a while (or if, God forbid, you've NEVER been) tonight is the night. Here We Come is a documentary chronicling the rise of Hip Hop and Breakdance culture in communist East Germany during the 1980s--which, we imagine, was an incredibly bizarre time to be involved in any music scene there. Director Nico Raschick describes the film as "a documentary,...

Slide, slide, slippity-slide, hittin' switches on the block in a '65... oh, sorry, wrong kind of voyage. Anyway, this Cosmic Voyage promises to be pretty much as rad as anything Coolio's ever done. Based on early space travel theorist Konstantin Eduardovitch Tsiolkovsky's novel Beyond the Earth, Cosmic Voyage (Kosmicheskiy reys: Fantasticheskaya novella) portrays humans in space 25 years before Yuri Gagarin's historical journey. It's presented as part of the Austin Film Society's Other Minds, Other...

Austin Mayor Will Wynn, long a proponent of green energy, has his sights set on an even bigger target: global warming. Back in February, Wynn unveiled the Austin Climate Protection Plan, whose ambitious goals are eliminating all carbon dioxide emissions from municipal activities by 2020 and running all City buildings and vehicles using renewable energy sources. Tonight, Alamo Music Mondays presents an encore screening of Philippe Puicouyoul's 1980 New Wave love story La Brune Et Moi. The story revolves around a hot young French girl who's desperate for punk-rock superstardom, and a rich businessman who tries his best to buy it for her. But of course, the underdeveloped plot is just an excuse to showcase a long list of French punk bands, including Ici Paris, Artefact, Astroflash, Edith Nylon, The Questions,...
