As our era gains notoriety for rendering traditional art forms obsolete, the Austin Alternative Process Group breaks through the flickering screens. Drawing with Light: A Modern Exhibition of Historical Processes currently being exhibited at the Dougherty Arts Center, reaches back to the 19th century to combine our modern sensibilities with some startlingly tangible stretches of light and shadow. Sunlight, wet glass, egg whites, and gun cotton (cotton soaked in nitric and sulfuric acid) are just a few of the time-honored ingredients needed to harness the extraordinary photographic power of these complex processes.

From Friday at midnight to Saturday at midnight, they came, they saw, they constructed, and then they conquered. Led by artist Liz Glynn, a team of volunteers recreated the rise and fall of Rome in cardboard and reused building materials in the cleared out gallery space at the Arthouse. At the end of the one day feat, the participants took on the role of invading Visigoths and trampled the city to the ground.

Every Wednesday through June 10 at the Republic Square Park, there's a concert powered entirely by solar resources. Green rock'n'roll has never sounded better, and these weekly concerts a a double-edged sword of good karma -- every event benefits Blue Dog Rescue. Mellow Johnny's bike shop is providing free 'bike valet' services, so Austinites are able to ride gree, listen green, and give to a good cause, helping animals in local shelters find new homes. Last night's concert featured Bruce Robison and his brother Charlie, lots of beer, and gorgeous weather. Photos courtesy Steve Hopson.

Wondering what you're missing at the new Mighty Cone location on South Congress? Foodoir Photography: Flip Happy Crepe

The crepes coming out of Flip Happy's air stream are all quite special, but this one is exquisite. Ham, Gruyere, mornay sauce and green onions make this one a "truly drool-worthy" slice of heaven according to photographer Laura Mundee.

These cinnamon buns at the Sunset Valley Farmer's Market make us drool. They're just a sample of the delicious foods available at the market, which takes place every Saturday, rain or shine, at the Toney Burger Center in south Austin.

It's finally starting to cool off in Central Texas, and we're craving comfort food. One very satisfying place to start is at Moonshine Bar & Grill on Red River, where the green chile macaroni is about as good as it gets. Served with grilled chicken, corn relish and green chile cream, this dish offers all the warmth of a winter dinner from mom, but adds that kick that makes it unforgettable. We recommend this dish with a side of the corn dog shrimp, which are exactly what they sound like (and it's amazing), served with a side of honey mustard and blueberry swirl.

Cory Ryan gets us in the mood for Cajun comfort food in the form of shrimp and grits. Grab a bowl at Hoover's, and be sure to check the sweets board for dessert - if sweet potato bread pudding is listed, go ahead and loosen your belt a notch to make room.

Austinist contributing photographer Chad Wadsworth stopped by the Parish on Saturday to greet Little Joy and get a sneak peek of what to expect during their soundcheck.

We're still feeling inspired by everything we saw at last weekend's East Austin Studio Tour. We tried to capture the diversity of the event and visited painters, metalsmiths, woodworkers, printers, ceramicists, mixed media artists, and many others. As always, Blue Genie Art Industries, BigMedium, and Pump Project made our jaws drop. We can't wait to see what's in the works for next year's tour! Photos taken by Andrew Stalick, Callie Richmond, and Kristin B.

Swing by Cissi's Market on South Congress, which doubles as a wine bar, to try this incredible-looking salad featuring egg, walnuts and Bibb lettuce nestled against a piece of toasted Sourdough.

What's that you say? You missed Adreon Henry's One Line Drawing's exhibit last month? Well son, that was a foolish, foolish thing to do, but don't beat yourself up about it too much. You are being given a mulligan, and you better swing yourself hard and fast towards Super! Alright! Studios this weekend, as this time you only get two days to check out Henry's new work during the East Austin Studio Tour.

El Greco's grilled baby octopi appetizer include a handful of sea creatures topped with Greek spices and covered in balsamic vinaigrette.

Sebastião Salgado, bless his heart, trained as an economist. But, after a trip to Africa in the 1970's, he confirmed a fortunate/unfortunate talent for plucking photographic glory from the mundane, and even from the quietly horrific. Wisely, he stuck with it; Salgado is today considered one of the world's best documentary photographers. The new exhibit at AMoA, Workers, is filled with 62 of the artist's photos.

All photos contributed by staff photographers Eric Uhlir, Nash Cook, Briana Purser, Phive, and Patrick Dentler.

Austin Music Hall was filled with a steamy darkness Saturday eve as gospel music crept through the speakers. Shouts of "f*ck yeah!" filled the air as a packed house awaited the heavenly entrance of Kings of Leon.

Maker Faire had us feeling both completely inspired and totally inadequate; here are some more pictures to prove it.

We had a blast at last weekend's Maker Faire. Here's our first set of photos from the event.

Uchi's take on ceviche consists of of salmon, striped bass, vine-ripened tomatoes, yellow bell peppers, garlic and cilantro drizzled in a light vinegar mixture.

What can you say about Tel Aviv's Monotonix playing at Mohawk last night? It was a blur. Not just a blur of moments and drinks ordered between songs, but a blur of who was holding you up against the mass of dancing, shouting, screaming bodies who threw beer as if dollars had lost no cents, as if we weren’t in a financial crisis
