We picked up this gem the other day at Out of the Closet on Polk Street. We imagine it sat in someone's kitchen for decades, and we plan for it to do the same in ours. We especially love the lone exclamation point and the rather whimsical cherries and strawberries. This find so makes up for the many other fruitless trips to Out of the Closet we've endured. Bon Appétit, indeed! more ›

After SFist commenter Joel mentioned (in "Pedestrian Hit, Killed By Car Fleeing North Beach Shooting") a recent gang-related shooting in front of Kevin's Noodle House in the Sunset, saying, "I think I'm gonna stop eating pho for a while," hillarys_quivering_lip responded thusly: more ›

Trademark Grill, nestled on Belden Place, features a cocktail program that Camper English would likely classify as Neo-Classic. Today's cocktail of the week, created by Franz Meis, was named to honor a long-time regular customer named Spencer, who has a penchant for for dressing in turn-of the century suits as well as a biting sense of humor. His elegant dress coupled with his personality displays a contrast in styles, which served as the inspiration for the drink. more ›

The nation's oldest queer theater organization, SF's Theatre Rhinoceros, is celebrating its 32nd season this year without a permanent space to call home, having left their space on 16th Street due to lease issues. They're currently roaming and calling themselves Rhino on the Road, and their current production Tick, Tick... Boom! is playing at the Eureka Theater on Jackson and Front Streets in the Golden Gateway complex. more ›

Why, this is the most joy-inducing thing we've seen since this. Local musician and crooner Myles Cooper's "Gonna Find Boyfriends Today" is a merry ditty about finding male tail, with a video that uses puppetry, loud colors, animation and bare chests. We strongly urge you to watch it at least twice. more ›

The Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth packed into Marines Memorial Hall today to discuss their "latest" findings in the conspiracy theories — now supported, they say, by a legion of architects and engineers 1,000 people strong — surrounding the alleged planned demolition of the World Trade Center towers nine years ago. Organization head Richard Gage (pictured) spoke about the eyewitness and forensic evidence he's assembled -- "evidence" which isn't so much new, because we've heard it all before, lo these many years now, but which he feels compelled to deliver before a captive audience from time to time. more ›

by Justin Juul M.C. Mars is a 59 year-old rapper with HIV who has been driving cabs for over thirty years. He’s also a published writer and a former sex machine. No big deal, really. The cool thing about Mars is that, even though he’s of-a-certain-age, unsigned, and grappling with an incurable disease, he still gets up every morning and makes shit happen on his own terms. He may not be the best rapper in the world and he may not be famous or wealthy, but at least he never rolled over and got a desk job. Instead, he performs weekly at Royale, makes music like crazy, and works on his upcoming novel every day... more ›

The innocently named T&A; Market (we believe the name comes from the initials of the two proprietors), a small convenience store on Market Street between 6th and 7th, recently tried to erase the evidence of its originally chosen name. It appears that someone pointed out the American idiom of "T&A;" to the non-native-born owners, and the funny placement of their awning just below the Market Street Cinema strip joint's marquee. Really, they had no idea. See the beauty, touch the magic, indeed. more ›

80 initiatives and referenda and are out and about around the state with advocates trying to collect enough signatures so they can qualify for an upcoming election ballot. You might see people at farmers markets asking you to support the initiative for state parks or maybe you signed the one to legalize marijuana, which has already been turned in and will appear on the November ballot, pending signature verification. more ›
