Seinfeld Driver Caught Using Expired Parking Placard

022610jerry.jpg Those NYPD-issued parking placards are GOLD, Jerry, pure GOLD! Although Mayor Bloomberg has cut back on the number of placards issued to city employees, drivers still cling to the precious perk, which lets them park for free at meters and many off-limits areas. On Wednesday CBS2 noticed funnyman Jerry Seinfeld getting dropped off at his studios on West 57th Street. His driver, retired narcotics officer Sgt. Timothy Gallagher, parked the car and escorted the Bee Movie star inside to work on his new program, The Marriage Ref. And the vehicle was left behind with an expired parking placard in the window—which never even belonged to Gallagher in the first place. (And yes, Seinfeld's driver really is named Gallagher!)

Because this is such a bombshell story, CBS2 immediately sought out Mayor Bloomberg for comment; a reporter asked him at a press opportunity, "Do you know if Jerry Seinfeld has a relationship with the NYPD and the Bronx Narcotics Bureau and if not how he would come in possession of a parking placard that allows him to park his personal vehicle on the street?" Bloomberg replied, "I have absolutely no idea. He's a great comedian. But I haven't talked to him. I haven't seen him in a while." Bloomberg then made a phone gesture with his hand and whispered to the cameras, "CALL ME." (Kidding.)

According to the Post, "NYPD big wigs leaped into action after being shown a picture of the placard. They determined it belonged to a Bronx narcotics officer, who sources said is not Gallagher, but a female detective who still works for the NYPD." The placard expired in 2007, and even when it was current, it could only be used to park near the Bronx narcotics bureau office. But as we saw back in July, you can pretty much just draw a parking placard replica in crayon and traffic agents will still believe it. It's being reported the NYPD is investigating this violation.

Seinfeld's rep issued a statement saying, "The placard belongs to his driver and security guy who is a retired police officer. He used the placard without Jerry's knowledge and will NEVER use it again." It's unclear whether the growing scandal will force Seinfeld to step down from his work on The Marriage Ref, but at least Gallagher's job is safe. Seinfeld's rep says, "Jerry feels that his driver was going out of his way to help him and will not" fire him, which is too bad because "Seinfeld and Gallagher No Longer a Team" would make a great headline.

He'll just have to buy a brownstone in the neighborhood and convert it into a four-story parking garage.

Going to file this under the who gives a shit file.

Ladies and gentlemen: a quote from our future police commissioner - or maybe even mayor if he can scrape up $100,0000,000.

lol. i think anyone who does anything questionable from now on should be forced to step down from any position they hold. it will be like musical chairs for any government, big business, or entertainment position.

You're right. This parking indiscretion obviously disqualified Seinfeld from his new job judging people's marriage problems for a TV comedy show.

so its not a crime to display an invalid placard in your car?

I recall that guy who left his van in tmsq a few months back. thats what he did, and it was a crime, but then he wasnt a former cop, so he didnt have life long immunity.

you should ask the mayor or the NYPD spokesman for that answer.

no, their answer would probably be to arrest me.

there are different laws that apply different people. you live long enough you can't help seeing that.

agree totally, I'm just glad that WCBS reporter had the guts to confront the mayor on it.
no difference between his car or the van, both were in Manhattan, one in a tourist area the other in a celebrity area. should be treated the same, a Crime. more so, if it's a cop using an expired placard that's not even his.

There's a difference between that van (with a fake one), and a retired guy with a 3 year old one.

Call him Jerry, Bloomturd will get you a real placard so this won't happen again

In response to the allegations, Seinfeld's driver smashed the expired parking placard and a couple of watermelons with a sledgehammer

Seinfeld is a scumbag. Dude is like Jay Leno without a television show. He Stole his wife from another dude on their honeymoon, is best friends with N word Kramer, and he made Bee Movie. His shtick is basically woody allen with less neuroticism and more high pitched whiny voice with a huge dollop of smugness. I bet you his private conversations probably play out like sandra bullock's in the movie Crash.

I'm sure Seinfeld would be devastated to learn that someone calling himself babyhitler trashed him on the Internet.

If it makes you feel better my name isn't based on adolf but little joe hitler, the famous dogsled champion of 1923.

I never would have asked, but I can't tell you how happy it makes me to know that.

You lie. Everyone knows that little joe hitler felt disgraced by his surname and had it legally changed to "Madoff"

He should be forced to wear the bee costume for the next 5 years.

Jerry should be forced to wear the bee costume in public for the next 4 years.
