Big news for D.C. United fans. The Washington Convention and Sports Authority and concessions manager Sodexo have reached an agreement to bring several new food options to RFK Stadium this season, including Ben’s Chili Bowl. Ledo Pizza and Fat Face Bar-B-Que will also be opening inside the stadium.

The Ben's news comes after two successful seasons at Nationals Park. The landmark local eatery's move into concessions in 2008 marked the first time the business had ever served its famous half-smokes anywhere other than U Street.

Ledo Pizza and Fat Face Bar-B-Que will be available starting with the D.C. United’s home opener on Saturday. Fat Face will also sell food during tailgating events in Parking Lot 8. Ben’s Chili Bowl service will begin on April 17.

Menus below:

Ben’s Chili Bowl
(1 stand): Half-Smokes; Chili Dogs; Chili; Vegetarian Chili; Baked Beans; Coleslaw.

Ledo Pizza (2 stands): Pepperoni and Cheese pizza only; Hot Dog and Pizza combo.

Fat Face Bar-B-Que (1 stand): Pulled Brisket, North Carolina-style Pulled Pork and Grilled Chicken sandwiches; Fat Face All-Beef Barbeque Dogs.

This baby brown kiwi may not be quite as cute as a clouded leopard cub, but its birth Tuesday morning at the Smithsonian's National Zoo's Bird House was a pretty big deal. Brown kiwis are one of the world's most endangered species, and this was only the fourth time ever that a kiwi has successfully hatched at the Zoo. Only four zoos outside of New Zealand have successfully bred kiwis. more ›

>> The Smithsonian American Art Museum opens a sweeping exhibit this Friday, Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Remembering the Running Fence. See drawings and models made by the artists in preparation for the 24.5 mile long fence built in northern California in 1976, which ran all the way into the Pacific and existed just two weeks before the builders came back and removed it without a trace. The exhibition includes 240 photographs of the construction and the finished piece. On Friday, the museum will screen a new film commissioned for the exhibition, followed by a discussion with director Wolfram Hissen and artist Christo. Get a free ticket in the G Street lobby entrance starting at 6 p.m. The new film, along with the 1978 film by Albert and David Maysles that documented the project (which we'll talk about more in tomorrow's Popcorn & Candy film picks), will run regularly in the exhibit. more ›

D.C. United’s home opener is this Saturday and it’s going to be a good one. The first game of the year comes against one of the team’s biggest rivals in the New England Revolution, but before the game kicks-off at 7:30pm, there’s a whole lot of tailgating and music to be had. more ›

John Catoe's last day on the job as Metro General Manager is this Friday, and incoming Interim GM Richard Sarles has pledged to make safety his number one priority. Looks like Sarles has already got one issue to address: a train operator accidentally took off with a 14-car train on the Orange Line this morning, pulling into the New Carrollton station before noticing the mistake. The extra-long train was the result of an 8-car train having been coupled with a 6-car train that had been stored closely behind it in the New Carrollton Rail Yard, according to Metro. From the release:

The train pulled into the station at about 5:40 a.m. and opened its doors. The few customers who boarded the train were immediately asked to disembark. They boarded another train. more ›

Pictures from Saturday's kite festival are still trickling into our pool. It was such a beautiful day, and the last few were so gloomy, who can blame our photographers for being inside editing? Pianoman75 made this great shot of a string of kites dissolving away into the sky. (EXIF) more ›

For anyone who's been the victim of one-too-many April Fools' pranks (apparently if you go into a Chick-fil-A dressed like a cow on April 1 all you'll get are weird looks, not free sandwiches), free lunch on the prank-iest day of the year might sound like a setup for failure. But we're not joking when we tell you that Urbana is offering 300 free lunches on April 1, 2010. No costume required. more ›

Going 0-1-2 in your past three games isn't the worst stat in the books, but it's certainly unusual for the league-leading Washington Capitals. After losing 5-4 to the Ottawa Senators in overtime last night, the Capitals traced their problems back to poor performance in the first period -- a recurring problem in their last three outings. more ›

Good morning, Washington. The death toll in last night's massive shooting on South Capitol Street reached four overnight. We still don't know the identities of any of the victims, but authorities did confirm that three out of the 10 total shot were women, the rest men. D.C. Police are obviously still investigating, and have yet to reveal what motive the three individuals who were taken into custody might have had in the killings. We'll continue to follow this tragedy as more information becomes available. more ›
