ESPN's Erin Andrews Received E-Mailed Death Threats

erin-andrews-death-threats.jpg First she was secretly videotaped in the nude, now ESPN's Erin Andrews has been the target of death threats sent via e-mail, according to an AP report published on cbs2. Andrews' attorney, Marshall Grossman, reveals the blonde sports reporter and current "Dancing With the Stars" contestant has been getting sexually explicit and threatening e-mails since September. The e-mails reference Andrews' convicted secret video-taper, Michael David Barrett, and include details about where and how the author would commit murder. Grossman says the FBI has been made aware of the threats; Andrews does not plan to leave DWTS, but "has asked ABC to beef up its security" for the show.

Tonight local retro 60s psych-infused pop duo Bell Gardens will be gracing the Bootleg Theater, ringing in their latest endeavor—2010's Hangups Need Company. Silver Lake's own all-female quintet Kissing Cousins are poised to stop through Origami Vinyl, taking part in its one-year anniversary festivities of course. And, lastly, Orange County-bred indie rockers the New Limb will be headlining the House of Blues Anaheim, debuting their latest effort—2010's Sounds People Can Hear. But we strongly suggest heading over to Spaceland to catch LA-based MC Kenan Bell, who will be celebrating the release of his debut album—2010's Until The Future. LAist favorites, local indie rockers White Arrows are slated to kick things off. more ›

Surfer Blood @ the Echoplex 03/27/10

It seems like everyone we speak to has a hankering for the baby-faced band that is Surfer Blood. We loved them at The Village Voice party at SXSW and decided to check them out locally for the Aquarium Drunkard presented-Waved Out last Saturday. Of course, any band claiming Pavement and Yo La Tengo as influences is on the right path, but it's a really good thing Surfer Blood have got the musical chops to back up their indie rock know-how. And it doesn't hurt that they are, to cite a fan and local LA band manager who I ran into that night, "so adorable I want to put them in my pocket and manage them forever". Definitely.

A standing room-only crowd was treated to just that. What began with an almost too-subdued set by Lou Barlow (of Dinosaur Jr. and Sebadoh fame) ended with the rollicking hilarity of Al Madrigal and his band of imaginary cholos, with a solid dose of Sarah Silverman shenanigans in the middle. more ›

Powerful IBEW Union Not Happy with Villaraigosa

ladwp-rate-hike-denied.jpg The union that represents 8,700 L.A. Department of Water & Power workers is at odds with Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa over the carbon surcharge drama going down between the City Council and Board of Water & Power Commission. Despite warnings, the Board approved a higher electric rate than recommended by the Council, which in turn vetoed it. That meant the needed rate increase to address bankruptcy concerns and renewable energy expansion can't happen for another three months. Brian D'Arcy, the head of the power-weidling International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, told the Villaraigosa that the Board should have supported the plan. A LADWP top official says the agency is now "significant jeopardy."
