As we mentioned in our GothamList newsletter (sign up here), there are bunch of fun things to do today. In Brooklyn, it's the Atlantic Antic Street Festival, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., with food, music, belly dancing, food, ponies and inflatable rides. Over on the Lower East Side, between 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., it's NYC International Pickle Day with demonstrations and plenty of pickles to sample—and you're encouraged to arrive in costume. COMEDY: The Leo Allen-hosted comedy show Whiplash will bring Andy Blitz, Seth Herzog, Liam McEneaney and Kurt & Kristen to the stage tonight. Allen (pictured) recently won an ECNY award, which in his absence was accepted by Seth Herzog's mother. More details here. more ›

EVENT: Finding yourself pinching some pennies these days? Broke-Ass Stuart (aka Stuart Schuffman) is in town to save the day. Join him tonight "as he reads from his book Broke-Ass Stuart’s Guide to Living Cheaply in New York City. After a signing and Q&A;, he’ll lead a walking tour of McNally-Jackson’s neighborhood, pointing out deals and highlights as he goes." The tour will likely end at a bar, so save some coin for that! more ›

EVENT: The Secret Science Club is back and holding court at the Bell House tonight. This evening astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson lectures on "the Rise and Fall of America’s Favorite Planet, the icy little world known as Pluto" which was demoted to the status of dwarf planet in 2006. Tyson actually received a tear-stained hate mail letter from third-graders when this was announced! Did we mention he's also the director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History and host of PBS’s Nova: ScienceNOW? Not to mention one of TIME Magazine's 100 most influential people and People mag's title holder for Sexiest Astrophysicist Alive. more ›

FOOD: The man behind the chocolate, Jacques Torres, will be at the 92nd Street Y tonight for a "candid conversation about [Torres's] life in chocolate" moderated by culinary historian Alexandra Leaf. But the real sell is that there's going to be a chocolate tasting with wine pairings. This reminds us, it's almost ice cream sandwich season! more ›

MUSIC: If you missed out on tickets to the big Wrens show at Bowery tonight, there's plenty of music going on elsewhere. Hopewell, Artranker Convoy, The Netherlands and The Albertans are at Glasslands tonight, all in celebration of the headliner's new cd release. MUSIC: The music of R.E.M. will fill Carnegie Hall tonight, but don't expect to hear Michael Stipe's voice! The tribute will include performances by Kimya Dawson, Glenn Hansard, The Apples In Stereo, Guster, Patti Smith, Bob Mould and Rachael Yamagata. Calexico is the house band, and who knows, maybe Stipe & Co. will show up—at least one of them is in town. more ›

ART: Multimedia artist Thomas Beale hosts a cocktail reception tonight to help launch the 3-month-long "charity: water" photographic exhibition at Chelsea Market. The artist has even installed a custom-built wishing well for the installation (100% of the change tossed in will go towards the construction of freshwater wells in developing nations). The event's site explains: "Unsafe water and a lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of all sickness and disease, killing more people every year than all forms of violence, including war." more ›

EVENT: Oh, dear. Barbie is having another celebration tonight as she continues on into her 50th year. Tonight she's holding a Birthday Beauty Pageant, where participants are asked to dress up like your favorite Barbie and strut your stuff. The winner has a chance to be crowned Miss Barbie 2009 (who knew). There will also be Malibu Barbie cocktails, birthday cake, trivia, and hopefully some Kens. more ›

COMEDY: You may know Kevin Nealon from Saturday Night Live, but hopefully you've also appreciated his more recent role as the dope-lovin' Doug Wilson on Weeds (pictured). Well this weekend he's taking residency at Caroline's, and for some reason tickets are still on sale—get on it! more ›

MUSIC: If we could be in two places at once, we'd be seeing two great shows tonight, but until that time travel technology is ironed out, decisions must be made. First up is Cale Parks (pictured) at the Annex, who will be back in town by month's end, following a stint at SXSW. Next up are chamber-rockers Physics of Meaning, who are playing at Union Hall (we're huge fans, and last year they played our CMJ show at the Bell House). more ›

MUSIC: Tonight's triple threat lineup at Mercury Lounge consists of Anathallo (pictured), Sam Amidon, and Bridges and Powerlines. Go early, stay late—all of these acts are well worth standing in a packed club for. more ›

FINALS: Today the NY Times looks inside the Knicks Poetry Slam Finals. The paper describes the event: "In their search for identity and their quest to be understood, the teenagers mold metaphors from their jagged-edge experiences and bend rhymes to their own rhythm." Tonight the finalists get their last shot at over $30,000 in prizes (including a scholarship). more ›

MUSIC: There are a lot of good shows tonight, so don't even think about rushing home to bundle up. Strap on the snow shoes and head over to Mercury Lounge for Pattern is Movement, Maps and Atlases and (the return of) the Cloud Room. Try to squeeze in another show in the area while you're at it. MUSIC: The Brooklyn Philharmonic teams up with Clogs and Bell Orchestre (pictured) at BAM tonight for "an exciting musical dialogue that defies the expectations for classical concert programming." MUSIC: The Lonely Island are at Virgin Megastore tonight, performing tunes off their Incredibad album. This boat show is real! You may know them better as Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone. If you haven't seen their "I'm on a Boat" video, change that now. DOCUMENTARY: The NY Historical Society continues to celebrate Abraham Lincoln. Tonight they'll be screening parts of the PBS documentary Looking for Lincoln, which "addresses many of the controversies surrounding Lincoln - race, equality, religion, politics, and depression—by carefully interpreting evidence from those who knew him and those who study him today." A panel of experts will also be on hand for a discussion; more details here. more ›

ACTIVITY: Did you know you could learn to trapeze in Williamsburg on Mondays? Aerial Open Work Out invites you to play in their vertical fun space—they say: "Use our silks, lyras, and trapezes, or rig your own." MUSIC: It's not often that the "new" Galapagos hosts music anymore, so head over there tonight for Panda Transport (pictured; recently on Grey's Anatomy). They're described as using toys and theremins to create their sound, which might sound like an indie-rock gimmick nightmare but it actually works for the French-American duet. They'll be joined on the bill by Edison Woods, who delivers a "brilliant mélange of eerie tones mixed with upbeat percussion and whimsical strings." more ›
