Caught on Tape: Boozy Construction Workers

Hot on the heels of their undercover work at the city's trendy nightclubs, Inside Edition heads to a much less glamorous scene: the construction site.

There have been too many headlines penned about crimes against women in the city's clubs. Inside Edition has now gone undercover, placing hidden cameras inside what they dub the "trendiest clubs" here. Their investigation lasted a month, during which time they also surveyed women on their safety. They report back that "42% of women surveyed have felt threatened by men inside or outside a bar or nightclub." The show obtained the below footage taken from Marquee's surveillance camera about five months ago, showing a female's limp body being dragged out of the club by a man, who kidnapped and raped her.

2008_11_mccreasdy.jpgTwo weeks out of prison with a career comeback getting underway, what better time for a television interview from country singer Mindy McCready, the former mistress of pitcher Roger Clemens? McCready will be on Inside Edition tonight discussing her life in the cockpit alongside "The Rocket," telling the tabloid that their affair was conducted very out in the open, vacationing together throughout. She also says that she left Clemens because "I wanted him to do right by me." That seems to contradict a previous interview with the Daily News where McCready said she never intended to marry him and he should have "done right by his family." Clemens, who has had his reputation severely tarnished by the affair that broke following his embarrassing role in the steroid scandal, is defended by McCready as "one of the most wonderful men I've ever known…He treated me like a princess." She also notes their relationship was not sexual for years--possibly because they met when she was 15.

Even though their job descriptions consist less of coming up with catchy ad pitches and more of watching over prisoners while they're fully armed, that hasn't stopped local court officers from drinking on the job like they're Don Draper. Tonight's Inside Edition will feature an undercover investigation where they caught on tape at least sixteen court officers violating court policy and drinking during their lunch breaks. One officer drank up to six beers during his lunch hour on 13 occasions. And when another found the criminal court's local watering hole Whiskey Tavern closed one day, he simply went ahead and brown bagged it while still on the clock. A spokesman for the court officers told Inside Edition, "At lunch hour, apparently they weren’t being watched, except by you. If in fact the allegations you bring to us are proven, the court officers will be disciplined.”

Due to the Writer's Guild of America strike, Hollywood's party, the Golden Globes Awards were transformed from a boozy, fun dinner party to a press conference where presenters from entertainment programs like Extra! and E! News got to announce the winners. Yes, it was as painful as it sounded (Giuliana Rancic, it's not about you); many said they couldn't believe they were announcing the winners but said they would prefer it with the stars. Inside Edition's Jim Moret struck a classy note when he acknowledged the Hollywood Foreign Association (the organization that doles out the Golden Globes) President Jorge Camara.

Vynl, 507 Columbus AvenueOn three separate nights cameras caught the critters feasting "on scraps that were left on the dirty kitchen floor and climbing over crates of glassware" at Da Silvano's (pictured top left). The owner there said the problem was caused by nearby construction and recent renovations and claimed he will be throwing out everything edible in the restaurant and starting fresh. Ah, not even the celeb hot spots can escape the wrath of roaches and rodents.

Since the spring, the Post’s Page Six gossip column has for some reason been following the strange saga of the love life of Long Island native and Philadelphia television anchor Alycia Lane, who bears more than a passing resemblance to Liz Cho. It has, of course but it has provided some strange entertainment since May when the tabloid revealed that she had sent e-mails containing private photos of herself to NFL Network anchor Rich Eisen that were discovered by his wife, ABC Sports reporter Suzy Shuster.

We don't know about where you are, but it seems like spring can't decide whether or not to happen. Some days are warm, some days are cold, and sometimes you aren't sure which. Baseball may have started up (and soccer/football winding down) but it still seems cold out there. Unless it's not. Anyways, onto the -ists.

Awesome: The owner of a Burger King at Fifth Avenue and 36th Street is suing its landlord. Apparently the BK at 401 Fifth Avenue got infested with rats "after an adjacent Chinese restaurant shut down earlier this month," according to the NY Sun. And then when Inside Edition caught the rats inside the Burger King (as well as rats in other city restaurants), the owners decided to sue.

Inside Edition, better known for covering tabloid stories and entertainment, has found something that mixes the best of both worlds: Looking for rats in NYC restaurants. Perhaps the most famous restaurant goers these days are city rats, and Inside Edition was on them like paparazzi on Britney Spears:

INSIDE EDITION took to the streets of Manhattan between 1:00 AM and 4:00 AM peering their cameras and flashlights into the windows of a wide variety of eateries, from fast food places to fine dining establishments. INSIDE EDITION found many of the restaurants shared one common denominator, vermin.
Today, part 1 aired, revealing problems at Brazil Grill (787 8th Ave. at 48th Street), Dunkin' Donuts (1093 Second Ave. at 58th Street), KFC/Dunkin' Donuts (761 7th Ave. at W. 50th Street), Burger King (401 Fifth Ave. at E. 36th Street), Arte Pasta (81 Greenwich Ave. Between Bank and West Eleventh), Papaya King (179 E. 86th Street at Third Ave), Va Bene (1589 Second Ave. at 82nd Street) and Cosi (498 Seventh Ave. at 37th Street).
