DON'T STOP 'TIL YOU GET ENOUGH: Sloane Crosley is in town tonight and tomorrow (more on that to come tomorrow) to read from her latest collection of essays, How Did You Get This Number. For all of you that loved Crosley's first book, I Was Told There'd be Cake, tonight is going to be a great night. Literally and figuratively.

7:00 p.m. // The Sorrento Hotel, 900 Madison St. // FREE

DON'T COME HUNGRY: Celebrity chef and all-around bad ass Anthony Bourdain will be in town tonight at The Moore Theatre to read from and talk about his latest food memoir, Medium Raw. Besides the fact that Bourdain is the author of two crime novels, most of us know him best either through Kitchen Confidential or his hit travel and food television show, No Reservations. Oh! Did we mention signed copies of the book are included with the ticket price?

7:30 p.m. // The Moore Theatre // Tickets: $35

COMEDY, BURLESQUE, VARIETY AND MORE: Macha Monkey presents Itsy-Bitsy, Teeny-Weeny, Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, MEOW tonight at the Rendezvous' Jewel Box Theatre. We're assuming that there's a lot more where that came from so if you're in need of a little excitement, we suggest you head on down to the Rendezvous.

7:30 p.m. // The Rendezvous // Tickets: $10

The Washington State Department of Transportation's latest round of work to spruce up the Alaskan Way Viaduct between King and Holgate streets prompted an archaeological dig that's bringing to light a once thriving neighborhood that has been buried beneath fill dirt for the better part of a century. The various bottles and blades that are excavated during this process will become part of the Burke Museum in due time, but you can get an early glimpse of what lies beneath the surface of Seattle in the photos below. more ›

  • Sick of this bullshit excuse for summer weather? So too, apparently, is noted no-goodnik Colton Harris Moore, whom reports indicate may have bailed on his old stomping grounds entirely, choosing to summer in South Dakota, though if he has any taste, he is simply passing through on his way to the Hamptons. Either way, small plane, yacht and vacation home owners throughout the region can finally rest easy and go back to worrying about how to spend their money.
  • 2 suspects have been arrested in connection with a shooting in Belltown early Sunday morning that left a man hospitalized. Anybody else getting a bit tetchy about walking around in Belltown after the bars get out, or is that just us?
  • In a rare political win-win, both candidates in the race for Washington's 2nd District congressional seat are happy about something - GOP challenger John Koster is happy to be endorsed by conservative heartthrob Sarah Palin, while incumbent Rick Larsen is delighted to brag that his opponent has the endorsement of far right nutcase Sarah Palin. Hooray, bipartisanship!

It’s in the nature of an ever changing society that ‘x ‘inevitably surfaces to become the new ‘y’. Bros icing bros, for instance, is the new beer pong, just as Lady Gaga is totally the new Madonna, and June is apparently the new January. It’s called being trendy, and since we are so on the pulse here at Seattlest, allow us to introduce you to the new thing: Mezcal is totally the new tequila. Tequila has had its time in the sun for far too long and it is time for it to make way for the new wave of party time libations from south of the border that assist in the making of astonishingly regrettable decisions. And you know how we know about this? None other than Mariners superstar Edgar Martinez. more ›

Miss this weekend's Fremont Fair and the accompanying solstice parade? Just can't get enough of psychedelic floats and naked, gaudily painted bicyclists? Take a look at some of the brightest moments from a grey weekend courtesy of Seattlest's own Flickr photographers. more ›

We’ve been a little distracted by the World Cup for the past 10 days, watching pretty much every match with the help of headphones on our work computer. Despite odd looks from coworkers, we’ll continue to cheer when appropriate. Yes, New Zealand just scored a goal, and I WILL MAKE YOU AWARE OF IT. Meanwhile, under our noses, the Mariners have provided some mercifully vuvuzela-free entertainment. more ›

One More Night for Laughter Against the Machine

Seattle comedy fans, the Balagan is hosting two more showing of Laughter Against the Machine tonight. That's two more heavily opinionated and highly informed hours of bracing political comedy. Is there anything better to do on a Saturday night? Yeah, we thought not. Pick up your tickets now.

8:00 & 10:00 p.m. // Balagan Theare, 1117 East Pike Street // Tickets: $12 - $15

  • Members of Seattle's City Council are reportedly asking Mayor Mike McGinn to reopen the search for a new police chief for the city. The Seattle Police Officers' Guild is also in favor of reopening the search, but only if their guy, current interim chief John Diaz, who has overseen the department while it tried out for America's Violentest Home Videos in the last couple months, doesn't get the nod.
  • Republican Senate candidate Clint Didier isn't about to go quietly into that good night, as a consultant for his campaign looks to take Dino Rossi down a peg in a Seattle Times article today, pointing out that Rossi is bathed in what is referred to in political terms as 'loser stink.'
  • A Bellevue Department of Licensing employee has been arrested on charges that she provided fraudulent IDs and driver's licenses to hundreds or even thousands of illegal immigrants from around the country, presumably without making even one of them parallel park.

DRINK KOOL-AID: The Brian Jonestown Massacre is a neo-psychedelic rock band led by Anton Newcombe. Perhaps "led" is too strong a word. Waylaid might be more accurate. Over the last 20 years, 17 releases, and 25-odd old bandmates, Newcombe explored rock's excess first-hand. Drugs, depression, self-destruction (all smartly documented in DiG!) went hand-in-hand with catchy and honest songs seemingly culled from a Nuggets comp. The songs he's written are astonishing; the fact he's still alive is a miracle. Newcombe and crew will be at Neumo's Saturday. The Funhouse hosts a tribute show Sunday. Saturday and Sunday 8:00 p.m. // Neumos & Funhouse // $18 and $6, respectively more ›

On the Travel Channel recently - between Anthony Bourdain crossing the globe to eat pork and Andrew Zimmern trekking the world to eat things far less tasty than pork - there was a little special entitled: The Top Free U.S. Museums. Now, the old standbys like the Smithsonian and the Getty in L.A. were there, but alongside these juggernauts were some lesser-known gems. Among these: Seattle’s very own Frye Art Museum. more ›
