Storms pass, heat wave retreating

For the third time in five days, a line of strong storms moved through the region. But the worst appears to be over, and the storms weren't in a league with Thursday's.

This time, the storms actually are going to do some good, breaking the heat wave. The air should be refreshing the rest of the workweek, but another hot spell might be cooking for the weekend.

The temperature hit 96 on Monday, just shy of the record, 97.

Atlantic City and Cape May both reported 97s.

But Thursday's level of destructiveness wasn't repeated this time.

The gusts in Hammonton, N.J. reached about 40 m.p.h. - a far cry from the 75 m.p.h. gusts in Philadelphia Thursday - the third highest ever recorded in the city.

Tuesday will be a "transition day," said James Hayes, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Mount Holly, as temperatures moderate, with a high around 90, before another cold front brings fuller relief.

Highs could be around 80 Wednesday through Friday, in the mid 80s Saturday, and the upper 80s on Sunday, July Fourth.

After tonight, no rain is in the forecast through the weekend.

There will not be a repeat performance of Thursday's weather, because the Phillies are not at home. I predict that there will be snow today.

The Liberal media would like to believe it was hot out. It's Obama's fault it rains. Foxnews tells me when to eat.
