Donald Trump Sends Media Criticism Doodle To Salon

Donald Trump

First Posted: 04/22/11 04:42 PM ET Updated: 04/22/11 05:46 PM ET

As you probably know by now, Donald Trump is running for (the attention one can receive by running for) President of our United States. He offers a robust platform of 1) birtherism, 2) investigating birtherism, 3) yelling at The Today Show for wanting to talk about birtherism or his related investigations into the same, and 4) not hiring Steve Schmidt, per the advice of grizzled political veteran Meghan McCain. But what you probably do not know is that he is also America's foremost media critic.

Trump has mastered the art of media criticism through a patented technique: he prints out something on the internet, doodles his critique on it, signs it, and -- I guess? -- sends it in the mail to the author. He did this to Gail Collins of The New York Times, then to Juli Weiner of Vanity Fair a few weeks ago, and now he's done the same to Salon's Justin Elliott, in response to his article, "How Trump could run and still hide his net worth." His doodle, which refers to the financial disclosure form he would have to file if he did, in fact, run for president, reads:

Justin --

I have no problem -- I would, in fact, file early -- you will be very surprised.

Best wishes,

Donald Trump

By sending around these notes, Trump is not just being critical, he's also being generous. As soon as he signs them, they immediately become the most valuable pieces of media criticism in the world. They are probably worth more than early Civil War daguerreotypes, and can likely be resold for millions of dollars. (But they should be donated the Newseum, obviously.)

Anyone who thinks Meghan McCain is a moderate voice of a new, less bigoted Republcian party should click through and read the "interview" between her and Trump linked from this article.

She fawns over him, even literally asking him for a job and telling him "my mom says" "he can do this", and that he should be president because her friends at a recent dinner party like him.

She asks him why the "birther issue" has "such traction" and when he says it's because he's convinced Obama was "not born here" she doesn't question it.

Niether does she question his dubious claim that he has investigators "looking into it" in Hawaii... she states this as fact then asks him in a one word confirmation question "Correct?" "yes" he replies. For a moment she becomes almost journalistic, asking him what they have found.

He tells her he'd "better not" answer this question, and she moves on to another topic, how great he is.

When you openly ask your subject for a job in his promised presidential campaign, you are not a journalist. You might be a party apparatchik, a blindly following right wing drone who cares more about Republican victory than opposing bigotry, you are perhaps a toady, Ms. McCain, but not a journalist.

It is beyond belief that this man is doing this to our country, a country he professes to love.

Actions speaks louder than words. He could care less about our country, only his personal agenda. A selfish, constant, habitual LIAR!

It's amazing he feels the need to reply to almost every stitch of criticism or ones comments. He may have money but, no common sense.

Is there an in house shrink out there who can provide us with a brief description of whatever mental illness Trump suffers from? It's one thing to hear about him blowharding from time to time over the years but quite another when he's obsessing on a daily basis. Clearly he's got problems and maybe his mental condition should be brought forward front and center for discussion if he considers running for the Presidency. However one good thing happening because of his antics and those of other Republican whackos is the the effect it's having on the Party. With all the divisiveness there's a good chance of a split as it's apparent that unity is starting to break down quickly and we may wind up with three main Parties which bodes well for the Dems. Trump has proven so far to be a welcome addition to the whacko contingent.

You rang? Take a gander at this and tell me what you think:

A personality disorder is a type of mental illness in which you have trouble perceiving and relating to situations and to people — including yourself. There are many specific types of personality disorders.

In general, having a personality disorder means you have a rigid and unhealthy pattern of thinking and behaving no matter what the situation. This leads to significant problems and limitations in relationships, social encounters, work and school.

In some cases, you may not realize that you have a personality disorder because your way of thinking and behaving seems natural to you, and you may blame others for the challenges you face.

I am going with Lawrence O'Donnell on this phony run by Trump. Wait until May 16 when the network announces their line up. Trumps bogus run will end.

Donald sure is a catty woman.

Trump is at the pinnacle of the evolution of the republican party. Once the party was cross bred with tea baggers a Donald Trump was inevitable. I thought he was a mutate, but on careful consideration, I saw that he was the by-product of the two political movements: republicans and tea baggers. To truly appreciate The Donald, look at him as the Son of Palin. --Scary!

It would be hard to find anyone else with an ego as big as Trump's, that and money are all he's got.

The Donald is going to have to grow a thicker skin or he's going to get writer's cramp from answering all of his critics.

"As soon as he signs them, they immediately become the most valuable pieces of media criticism in the world. They are probably worth more than early Civil War daguerreotypes, and can likely be resold for millions of dollars."

Why? Who would pay anything for a note from Trump.

We're not talking about the uncashed checks of Picasso.

you stole the words right out of my keyboard!
