How many First wives in this nation's history have you known to publicly come out and oppose one of their husband's policy decisions and stands?

It's just not done as a matter of protocol, and tradition. regardless of whether you like it or not.

Besides which, how much of an impact would her saying it or stating any support have had anyhow. Much as it was then, and now, the power to change most of the issues related to Gay rights (gay marriage, DOMA/DADT) lie either in Congress or with State Governments, and not really in the presidency.

And I'm willing to bet that Michelle Obama herself probably also has some very divergent views on some of the current president's policies, and even staff - but you'll never hear of them while he's in office, and possibly not even openly afterwards. .”

“It'd be nice if more military vets would fight for their gay brothers. Because gay people have always been fighting for America, and have never been recognized for it.

The military integrated and accepted interracial marriage well before these things became common in the civilian world and it could well be that the military could once again lead the way in endorsing the principles this nation should aspire to.\

I seriously want gays to have the right to serve openly and to be married, hands down. I can think of no logical argument against it, just an array of pinch-faced neo-puritans projecting their issues upon others. And pinch-faced neopuritans shouldn't be allowed to strip other people of their rights as citizens so they can feel better.
