Government

A message from Julia Gillard

I am truly honoured to lead the Australia I love, and I am committed to moving Australia forward and doing my absolute best as Prime Minister of this great country.

My vision for Australia is for a nation that rewards hard work, that treats all of its people with respect and that seizes the great opportunities for our future.

Those were the values I grew up with from my parents, and they’re the values that I’ve carried with me throughout my life.

Moving the nation forward begins with a strong economy, which is why I am determined to bring the budget back to surplus by 2013.

Delivering for families means doing everything possible to curb the cost of living, so families can manage the mortgage and pay the bills.

It also means delivering better services to families who every day rely on our schools, our hospitals and on a government that stands up for their concerns.

I want every child to have the chance of a quality education, just like my parents gave me – so they can be prepared for the jobs of the future.

That’s why I led the establishment of a national school curriculum with a focus on the basics – and it’s also the Government that is building trades training centres in schools, and investing in computers for all school students from Year 9 upwards.

I also want to see decent health services for every community. That’s why the government will fund 3,000 new nurses and 1,300 GPs over the next three years.

I believe in a sustainable Australia - and that’s why I am committed to Australia’s largest ever investments in solar and other renewables.

Better schools and hospitals; a strong economy and a sustainable Australia – these are the building blocks for a better future for all Australians.

Australia's best days lie in front of us not behind us – let’s move forward and build that future together.
