Fringe Program

The Fringe Program allows community and interest groups to present and encourage debate around their particular issues to the attending Labor Delegates and the general public, and to attract the attention of the mainstream media which is drawn to the conference.

From Homelessness to Gay Marriage and Climate Change, from Palestine to Nuclear Power and Refugees, if it is topical there’s a fair chance it will be a part of the Fringe Program. Far from shying away from these hot topics Australian Labor welcomes the opportunity to expose its delegates to the latest in emerging thoughts and recognises their importance in the creation of progressive and relevant public policy.

The Fringe Program is scheduled around the formal conference debates to enable delegates to attend breakfast, lunch or evening events where they can hear and join in with informed and specialised presentations and debate issues of interest, concern and public policy.

Whilst the events play no formal part in the conference policy agenda the opportunity to draw attention to issues that are being debated and generate publicity around these issues to influence that debate is dramatically heightened during the conference.

The Fringe Program is also a fantastic program of events for conference observers and a great way to introduce yourself to progressive political debate if you are thinking about getting more involved in the Party.

Check this page regularly to see the full Fringe Program released. For now - why not consider hosting a Fringe Event yourself?

Expressions of Interest

Expressions of interest are now being sought from organisations who may wish to host a Fringe Program Event at the 46th National Conference.

Organisations retain complete control over event content and are responsible for organising, promoting and co-ordinating the events. Not for profit organisations wishing to participate in the Fringe Program pay a small administrative fee of $250 and get an ad in the official conference program and two observer passes included. Corporates may also take part at the cost of $500.
