After Ernie and Lori spent six weeks at Kima International School of Theology in 2007, missionaries Don Smith and Sherman Critser asked them to prayerfully consider that God may be calling them to full time missionary service. After months of prayer, seeking counsel, and continuing to be encouraged by friends, the calling became clear. So after serving in pastoral ministries for 26 years, God has given a new direction for Ernie and Lori to serve at KIST, assisting in leadership development for Church of God in East Africa.

Ernie was born into a Church of God pastor's home in Wisconsin and grew up in Minnesota. His first involvement in missions came in his senior year of high school serving with Project Partner in Antigua. He attended Warner Pacific College, where he met Lori, and they were married in 1980. He earned both a BA and Masters of Religion degree and served congregations in Washington and Iowa.

Lori was born and raised in Casper, Wyoming. She was invited as a teen to become involved in the Highland Park Community Church where she accepted the Lord and was nurtured by youth leaders. She attended Warner Pacific College where she earned an AA degree in Early Childhood Education. After marriage and the birth of three sons, she earned an Associate Degree in Nursing and worked in family practice in Iowa.

Ernie and Lori have three adult sons: Adam (wife Michelle), granddaughter Kaylee and grandson Joel; Andrew with granddaughter Austyn; and Aaron (wife Holly).
