1) Find the Missing Link at MisLinks.org –

October 2nd, 2011 · 1 Comment

I like it. It’s a kind of missiological, mobilizational switchboard. You’re not limited to just one category. A particular link can be listed under several different “lenses” highlighting many possible functions of each particular link. What’s more, it’s free from spam. You can’t just *add* a link. Somebody (maybe GMI’s Mike O’Rear?) is taking the time to vet them. So you won’t see a Russian porn site popping up beside a UK betting site… *anywhere*. By contrast, you’ll see loads of highly-useful, practical, thoroughly-researched sites. Exactly what we’d want to see from something that GMI did for us. Well done, guys.

2) Language learners and teachers – Here’s a good tip! –

October 2nd, 2011 · No Comments

Brigada participant, Belinda, wrote recently, “I’ve been working in missions for close to 30 years and a man I used to work with (YWAM in Holland) was really gifted with learning languages. I was astounded at how easily he picked up the Dutch language and as far as I know he already spoke French fluently (and flawlessly!).  We took a mission band to give evangelistic concerts in Austria, Switzerland and I forget where else, but this man suddenly would “meld” into the public because he could communicate.  Amazing! David Durham blogs and wrote a book about language learning keys.  He doesn’t just give you easy answers, he expresses the heart of learning the culture of another language – and that is big take-home value even if you never “master” but only enter another language.”

Check it out at:

http://howtostudylanguages.com/

She continued, “You can subscribe to his blog or download a free sample to give you an idea. Those of us who minister in languages other than our own are sure to benefit from his book.  I proof-read the manuscript and felt privileged that he asked because I only speak one other language fluently and am trying to gain some ground in three others. His approach gives you the basic tools and the heart of the mission of learning another language.  You’ll read it, benefit from it and pass it on to your friends.”

I went there and, indeed, the guy looks to be the real deal. Worth the read. Thanks Belinda!!!

3) Online Video Counseling Available to Missionaries –

October 2nd, 2011 · No Comments

Care Port Counseling is an online video counseling ministry to those who work abroad, whether in missions or humanitarian aid. Donations subsidize the counseling, so that fees are minimal for clients. The counseling is done via Skype video, so relatively high speed internet is required for video streaming. Services are provided by a licensed counselor with 25+ years’ experience in Wycliffe Bible Translators as both a translator and counselor.  She is now counseling with Care Port to focus the ministry online and to broaden the availability to others working abroad. 12) The BackPage: Operation World is the Benchmark Book of Missions –

October 2nd, 2011 · No Comments

Where else can you get the entire world, downloadable in minutes? Operation World is arguably the definitive prayer guide to every nation. It’s now published by Biblica Publishing and is available in multiple electronic formats to support any e-book reader, including iPad, Kindle, Sony, Nook and more. It includes…

*** Updates on church growth, population, people and language statistics

*** Explanations of major currents in economics, politics, and society

*** Challenges for prayer and specific answers to prayer

Mike, the Director of Marketing for Biblica, reminded me recently that until recently, Operation World was only available as a traditional book, CD-ROM, or DVD. Now — suddenly — it’s ready to download immediately, in just about every format imaginable.

The e-book is fully searchable in full color when devices are color-compatible. Its table of contents is hyperlinked and has bookmark features. You can find it at any of these 3 sources:

http://www.BiblicaDirect.com

http://www.gmi.org

http://www.operationworld.com

For more than 40 years, Operation World has been the primary global resource encouraging readers to pray for world missions and evangelism. Since the original edition as printed in 1974, more than 2.5 million copies have been sold in a variety of languages. The book has been translated into German, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Korean, Chinese, Russian, and in part into Indonesian and Italian. It’s my go-to book, the one I open during prayer times (when I’m sure people think at first that I’m checking my email), and the one you’ll go to again and again. No kickbacks, no marketing fees, no fooling — this book is the real deal.
