Mike has been in this position since 1996. Over the years, he has had the privilege of serving in various capacities within the local and national church in Japan.

Mike graduated from Anderson University with a major in Christian education and a minor in sociology. While working in retail, he was actively involved in lay ministry at First Church of god in Shelby, Ohio, his home church since junior high. He served in various areas, including music, children's education and leadership development. During his childhood, Mike's family moved frequently, and he has fond memories of many different Churches of God they attended.

Mike recalls a time in his life when he was struggling with decisions about what to do with his life. Following a Wednesday night prayer service, he spent most of the night praying for God's guidance. The next morning he was awakened by a phone call from Ann Smith. Basically, she said, "We have an opening for an English teacher in Kobe, Japan, and we want you to go." Mike's immediate answer was "OK". In September 1984, Mike went to Japan for a two-year SAM assignment under a contract with the Palmore Institute, Kobe, Japan. He also worked with the Tarumi Church of God, teaching English and preaching occasionally.
