A Big Ball Of Energy

All through college, Jennifer Servo hung a picture of her role model Katie Couric on her refrigerator. Jennifer may have grown up outside Kalispel, Montana but she had big dreams of being a national television reporter and living in a skyscraper apartment in Manhattan.

As soon as she turned 17, Jennifer joined the Army Reserve to help pay for college and graduated four years later at the University of Montana with a degree in journalism. During that time, Jennifer also had a weekend reporting job for KECI-TV in Missoula. One of the stories she covered was an unsolved triple homicide at a local beauty salon that was featured on America's Most Wanted. 

After graduation, Jennifer landed her first television job at KRBC-TV in Abilene, Texas.  Always ready for an adventure, Jennifer packed up and moved into a tiny apartment in South Abilene a mile or so from her new job.

The last time Sherry Abel spoke to her daughter Jennifer was on Friday, September 13th. Jennifer said she was in a rush and would check in on Monday, her day off.  But there was no call from Jennifer Monday or Tuesday.  When she failed to show for work on Wednesday, worried co-workers called Jennifer's apartment complex.

The landlord discovered Jennifer had been murdered. It was September 18th, five days before Jennifer's 23rd birthday. Abilene police were faced with a perplexing murder scene. 

Another Killer?

Jennifer died as a result of trauma to the head and strangulation. She was found fully clothed, yet an autopsy revealed she had been sexually assaulted. It appeared she had been murdered in the living room, but for some unknown reason, the killer had moved her body to the bathroom.

Her purse, her cellphone and several DVD's were missing from the apartment, but there were no signs of forced entry into the apartment and no signs of a struggle, which made the police wonder - did Jennifer know her killer?

Neither her credit cards nor her phone have been used since her death. Jennifer's murder was only the second homicide in Abilene that year, but in a bizarre coincidence the first homicide took place in the same apartment complex, a short time before Jennifer arrived in Texas. That killer had surrendered to police and was in jail at the time of Jennifer's murder.
