Communities

East Campus

All first year students reside together on East Campus. Fourteen residence halls provide an environment that is small enough to allow for the development of close knit personal relationships but are large enough to bring people together from many different backgrounds and experiences.

West Campus

West Campus houses three different student classes - Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. As part of the larger community of students, six separate residential quads are home to smaller communities of students some of whom are affiliated with selective living groups or living learning communities.

Central Campus

Central Campus Apartments provides housing for over 1,000 students. These apartments include efficiency, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and three-bedroom units and are fully furnished. Of these spaces, approximately 54 are allocated to Graduate and Professional Students at the Swift Avenue Townhouses. The remaining beds are allocated to undergraduate students (juniors and seniors, with a limited number of sophomores).

Living Learning Communities

Duke University offers numerous opportunities for interested students to partake in intentionally designed Living/Learning Communities. These communities incorporate the residential component of the college experience along with other academic and social pursuits.

Selective Living Groups

Duke has a unique practice of designating sections of the residence halls and apartments as selective living groups (SLGs).  Membership in SLG's is determined by the student members of these groups.  SLGs are responsible for contributing positively to campus life and for managing their own internal room assignments.

Special Housing Options

Residence Life and Housing Services offers several special housing areas for upperclass students. These options can selected as a preference when students sign-up for fall housing.
