Charlie Simpson: 'Digital music is too disposable'

2 hours ago | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Charlie Simpson has described today's online music culture as "disposable". The singer, who releases his new Ep Farmer And His Gun this week, said that putting out individual tracks on the internet has affected the way full albums are created. Simpson told Digital Spy: "I just like EPs. I like the fact you get a few songs - singles just seem so boring. It's nice to put a couple of extra tunes on there. "The culture of people just buying one song, I don't really like that. I'd rather people bought a chunk of music instead of one song. It feels kind of disposable." On the decline of the (more) »

Seth Lakeman: 'New album is quite left-field'

2 hours ago | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Seth Lakeman has described his latest record as "left-field". The folk singer's new album Tales from the Barrel House was recorded entirely inside an old barrel house and is based on his own short stories. "It represents old artisans of industry, blacksmiths and carpenters, and putting all these subjects into the location of this barrel house in Devon," he told BBC Breakfast. "I tried to capture the ambience of that room on one mic, it was quite a challenge to record in a location like that. "It's quite a left-field record." Lakeman was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2005 for his album Kitty Jay, but was eventually beaten (more) »

Besties Alert: Taylor Swift And Dianna Agron Are Hunger Games Buddies

2 hours ago | TheFabLife - Movies | See recent TheFabLife - Movies news »

At first glance, this twitpic looks perfectly innocuous. It’s a group of girls on movie night. But look closer at the two blonds in the middle of the picture and you’ll see that this isn’t just a random ladies night out. It’s Taylor Swift and Dianna Agron! And they were watching The Hunger Games together, not at some special screening, but at a regular ol’ movie theatre in L.A. A pal of theirs called Abbey Cameron tweeted the photograph, saying, “The Hunger Games with the girlfriends” which is how we found out about their little excursion. Looks like there is zero tension even though Tim Tebow invited both Taylor and Dianna to his second annual ‘Tim Tebow Foundation Charity Golf Tournament’ on April 14 in Ponte Vedra. Remember how Tim and Taylor supposedly dated? Can’t blame him for wanting both the blonds around him, though. »

Paul McCartney has re-arranged his world tour to fit in a charity gig in London. The former Beatles star booked extra shows across Europe to keep his set on the continent so it would be easier and cheaper to take it to London's Royal Albert Hall for the Teenage Cancer Trust event on March 29. The event's organiser, Roger Daltrey from The Who, is quoted by The Sun as saying: "Sir Paul has been brilliant. We almost got him last year but he couldn't make the date work. "He said, 'I'll be there for you next year, Rog' - and here he is. He did a few extra shows in Europe to make it work so no-one had to foot the bill of getting (more) »

'Mad Men' Jon Hamm: 'Monogamy is a goal for Don Draper'

2 hours ago | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Jon Hamm has said that happiness and monogamy are goals for his Mad Men character Don Draper. The show returned this week for its fifth season and the actor told Metro: "One of the larger themes of the show is happiness and what it takes to achieve it, and that is a central irony. "This is a man who ostensibly sells happiness yet is pretty dissatisfied with his own life." He added: "I think that is one of his goals, though, to be happy and to find out what in his life will help him achieve true happiness. "Monogamy is another goal. He is going to explore that to the extent he can." Of Draper's complicated background, Hamm added: "There is a lot of his past still to be mined and there's (more) »

Microsoft is planning to release a scaled-down version of the Xbox 360 in 2013, reports have claimed. The "Xbox Lite" will offer Xbox 360 playback, Kinect integration and sell for around the same price as Apple TV ($$100/£100), reports Ms Nerd. The Arm-based platform will be compatible with all "current and future media apps" with a Kinect sensor that contains near mode technology. Releasing in 2013, the "Xbox Lite" will act as a precursor to the next Xbox, "a true successor to the 360", which will "do games for core-audiences and the same media apps as the other device, also with Kinect". The rumours appear to coincide with earlier reports of a brand new, cheaper Xbox, codenamed "Loop". (more) »

Anna Williamson's Showbiz Peek at the Week: Cowell finds 'The Voice'

2 hours ago | digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Thank goodness for telly and its schedules. A comforting old pal, like clockwork and the weather, every few months the seasons change. Wrap up the old and on to the new. The lack of decent telly has even forced me to adopt a weekend social life for the past few weeks - and I don't do weekend going out. If you lived near me and saw the reprobates that frequent the local establishments, you'd realise why. So it was goodbye to the icy winter guilty pleasure, Dancing on Ice, for another year, and hello to the spring schedule. Losing an hour of sleep was particularly horrendous to endure, but at least I can now gingerly attempt to bare my milk bottle legs and wear the new pair of Ray-bans I've been dying to show off. Note to self - really must get a pedicure before I go public in sandals. »

Zooey Deschanel Talks Being Tormented By Big Sis Emily

2 hours ago | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

With a three year difference between them, it's understandable to think of sisters and actresses Emily Deschanel and Zooey Deschanel as very close. But on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" (Weeknights, 12 a.m. Et on ABC), Zooey spoke of a long-running trick that her big sister Emily played on her.

"She basically just used the plot of 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' to terrify me," Zooey said. She went on to explain that Emily told her that she'd been replaced by an alien from Neptune. "the Neptunians had killed my real sister and replaced her with a facsimile who looked just like her, talked just like her, but when my parents weren't in the room, made crazy faces at me."

Emily apparently also tormented her by talking in a monotone voice like V.I.C.I. from "Small Wonder." Zooey didn't indicate how long Emily carried on the ruse, but »
