It has also increased, to 60 days, the free trial period for both Capture One Express and the more fully-featured Capture One Pro. The company's updated website shows Capture One Pro costing $299/€229 and Capture One Express reduced to $99/€69.

This is a joke, Adobe Photoshop is still the professional standard for photographs and nothing has come close to it's reliability. If I had a 80mp back that made 300mb 16bit tiffs and had an actually use for those kind of photos, then sure I would get this program, but until that day Photoshop works flawlessly.

Great news, but I'm waiting for them to do something about the performance of C1 on a Mac. Mine runs horribly on a MacBook Pro (v8,2) Chokes, stalls, takes for-EVER to load... I also agree with the post about the horrible noise reduction; it's the WORST! HOWEVER; the color quality of the conversions and the file management capability is the best, which is why I put up with the shortcomings.

Lightroom might be cheaper at $150, but it now limits Windows 7 systems. Since I am running Win XP, the $300 Capture one price tag is cheaper than buying a new computer. C1 still works fine on WinXP computers.

C1 is great RAW developing tool. But it's missing good Color Noise Reduction for a long long time, as compared to all existing RAW software (even free)...
Phase One promises image quality, but it's Color NR distruct it very much starting at iso800.
So, changing web-site and lowering price is not what makes me happy :((
Please, work of IQ and Capture One will be the choise.

Tried it and it did not seem much better than Aperture yet is a lot more expensive!

Not sure why so many people are obsessed with LR either. I still think Aperture is better than that too.

Nope (at least not when I tried last time). But it offers the best EXR DR 200/400 support that really allows you to pull something out of the differently exposed sensor halves.

I use C1 v6 and v3 for 5DII and 5DI files and love both. That v6 keeps all the meta files with images is much better than v3 and Lightroom IMHO. The output files are just great, and it's easy to use. I put 100 k images pa through them so it has to be fast.

The price is still poor, now that Lightroom is so competitive.

Phase One dropped the ball when they made v4, v5, and v6. The interface is poor on my Mac Pro and PC. It produces great files but it was a pain to use when I have tens of thousands of images. Phase One tried to remedy the situation by purchasing Media Pro, but that was simply a band-aid to the problem. Media Pro was even more buggy than Capture One. Noise reduction has always been poor on Capture One.

C1 does have a few strengths though: keystone correction, tethering, intact skintones even if saturation was pushed, etc. But it was an annoying program to use. LR was a breath of fresh air even though I purchased almost every major version of C1.

Its superior to Adobe creations in every way (ofc, except not being PhotoShop, but you got point). Tho if you are really sucker for colors, SilkyPix sometimes can do wonders..

superior.. that´s why so many professionels... including some i only know from the web but making 6 figures a year.. using LR?

if it would be superior..... these people would not use another solution.

it has it´s strength and weaknesses....

ps: on thing that is very annoying is that C1 puts files in any folder your work in.

silkypix.... if you have a camera that is supported.

I agree with Mescalamba about it being superior to ACR. Where it falls short is that it is not a complete package. It is a RAW converter and one of, if not the best at that, but for editing and printing and a complete workflow....? Well thats why people choose Lightroom. It does everything. Jack of all trades.......

well that depends.
im using x-rite colorchecker for critical work and the results are perfect (or as good as it gets).

i was never able to get better results with C1.

the workflow of C1 with all the different tabs for editing suck.
but that´s a personal taste.

the creating of hidden files and directorys are annoying.

i would think about using C1 again when i see the image quality gain that so many C1 fans speak of. but then i have tested both (in fact i came from C1) and i did not see it.

imho the better IQ some claim... is simply a result of more EXPERIENCE with one program.

words are cheap.

but when asked on forums nobody could show proof for bold words.
images developed by people who know what they are doing with either program look near identical.

i call the "superior" talk BS :)

You obviously haven't been around here very long. There were many threads showing comparisons, including some by professional photographers. It took Adobe four years before PS could correctly render the color red as red, and not orange. C1 has been getting the colors right all along, even with the original v3 series.

Phase One has had quality camera profiles for a long time, unlike Adobe, which is just starting to get the idea.

Thus the color management from RAW file to print works quite well, without having to jump through any hoops. This is one of the key reasons I selected Capture One, after having evaluated the competition (Adobe, DxO, Bibble).
