Dispatches From The Seven Kingdoms: Genre Bending

ON THE SET
by Bryan Cogman

Okay, I fear I am geeking out.  Another scene from Episode IV...Ned interrogating Grand Maester Pycelle, played by the great British character actor Julian Glover.  Genre fans will have a lot to savor here...Sean, of course, is known to millions from his role in 'Lord of the Rings' and as the titular character in the great TV series 'Sharpe.'  Julian was the villain in the third 'Indiana Jones' film and led the attack on Hoth in 'The Empire Strikes Back!!' I'm trying hard to act like a professional...but before this shoot is over, it may prove impossible for me to resist the urge to approach Julian and say "You chose...poorly."  Apologies to those of you who don't get that reference.

NOTE: We spent the first few weeks filming in the Painthall on Gemma Jackson's exquisite "Red Keep" sets.  I'll write about the Painthall and the various sets and "worlds" of the series in a future dispatch.

Read the next catch-up post here.
