JSF makes Mach 1.05 [Updated]

The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter flew supersonic for the first time, achieving another milestone. The aircraft accelerated to Mach 1.05, or about 680 miles per hour.
The first Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II fighter has finished all planned testing at Edwards AFB, demonstrating that the aircraft, the support crews, and contractor and military service personnel are ready for the dramatically expanded flight testing on the program's horizon.
The prototype F-35 Joint Strike Fighter AA-1 completed an air start test at Edwards on Oct. 23, marking the first time the aircraft arrived here.
Italy has elected not to take part in the Initial Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E;) program of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program.
The U.S. government approved the sale of 25 F-35 jet fighters to Israel and an option for 50 more in coming years, for a deal valued at up to $15.2 billion.
Air Force and Navy officials in Washington on Tuesday announced an agreement on the locations of depot repair workloads for the F-35 Lightning II.
The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, numbered AA-1, arrived at Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., Oct. 1.

The conventional takeoff and landing (CTOL) F-35A notched its 50th flight last week in preparation for testing at Edwards AFB, while the F-35B short takeoff/vertical landing (STOVL) variant began a planned modification interval that will lead to STOVL-mode flight early next year.
Pratt & Whitney was awarded a production contract worth up to $491 million (including options) for F135 propulsion systems to power the F-35 Lightning II.

U.S. Air Force analyses show the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is at least 400 percent more effective in air-to-air combat capability than the best fighters currently available in the international market.
Aeronautical Systems Center personnel connected with the F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter program are "flying" the jet with the Sept. 8 arrival of the F-35 cockpit demonstrator here.
Lockheed Martin has entered a DoD Mentor-Protégé Agreement with Aegisound, LLC, of Blacksburg, Va., and will assist the company as it becomes a supplier of advanced hearing-protection devices for military high-noise environments.
